23 year old US international midfielder Sacha Kljestan appears to be tracked by a host of European clubs to make the trip across the Atlantic according to news from MLS.

Sacha, capped 11 times for the US of A, is a Chivas USA player whom has been a regular for the past 2 seasons, and has impressed greatly that his suitors are all over the Old Continent.

Monaco, Celtic, Zenit, Olympiakos, Leverkusen and Heerenveen to name some have been inquiring about the possibility they could sign Sacha in January, but so far no news about his most preferred January destination.

Kljestan holds the Seton Hall record for most assists in a single season with 15 and is ranked 5th all time at the school level with 28 in 3 seasons. He was named Big East Offensive Player of the Year in 2005.

There have been a few good players come out of the league. Beckham plays in it also even tho he is very over rated imo he still is a good player

What I saw in the Olympics U23... No Thanks. Edu looked 3 times the player, and how's that working for Rangers?
Unless MLS is selling for 200k or so...

Actually, he plays on the wing AND in the Center. All rounder, better than Average and would be a good buy. However, not for first team football.

As for the case of maurice Edu, Rangers havent given him a chance, whereas look at DaMarcus Beasley, was first team till injured? Some good Americans. Tbfh, if we have to have a yank, gimme Freddy Adu or Jozy Altidore!

yes Jozy and Adu are really the crown jewels of american football, but we have a better chance of signing adu, aso for this guy he is good, very good, but there are doubts on how he will perform on a european level, Edu is also very good but he has no experiance and going to rangers is likley to harm his career since

I remember him being good... and Edu played CB so his play is kind of irrelevant considering he's playing CM for Rangers in a completely different style. People forget that the US played some very, very good football at that tournament and had they not stuck with McBride they would have gone very far. They played Nigeria extremely well and played the Dutch off the field only to have them tie the game after an idiotic foul by Holden.

And if you are going off the Japan game (which I suspect you are) then I'd say to take that game with a grain of salt, because Sascha played much, much better the next two games. I think they underestimated the Japanese looking forward to the obviously tough matchups of Nigeria and the Netherlands.

    But it would surplus, imo.

Edu only played CB for that tourney and usually plays at CM for club and country.

Honestly I disagree with you on Sacha. I think he looked terrible in the Japan game and only slightly better in the other two games. He did get the nice goal but that was about all he produced. He hasn't impressed me that much for Chivas either.

Adu has fallen off the map too. Don't think he has a start at Monaco (towards the bottom of Ligue 1) after a loan with option to buy from Benfica. A lot of that has to due with the head coach not wanting to give him a chance because he never wanted him at the club but I do think Adu needs a lot more time to develop before becoming a good professional player.

If you want a player that played very well in limited minutes I think Charlie Davies would be a great addition. He has finally found his form in Sweden too and scored like 12 goals in 14 games to end the season.

I like Sasha but there are a number of Americans I would take over him. Altidore i think is a star in waiting and I dont think Villareal would strangle us on a transfer fee, Michael Bradley I think could be a great player in the Celtic system and Donovan (his critics have their points) would be a hit in the SPL. I think Celtic needs an American starter if for no other reason than to reflect their support. Rangers will sign americans, why not Celtic?

Sacha's easily the second best young American technically next to Adu and maybe Sal Zizzo. He has some games where he's non-existent true, but in the last couple of CONCACAF qualifiers he's really showed a lot of confidence and played some killer passes. Maurice Edu is a little more solid and consistent but on a good day I would choose Kljestan.

Can we not turn this thread into a who's who of USMNT players you'd like to see play for Celtic? I really don't think Scotland is the place for him... he's tall but built like a stick and doesn't have a lot of pace. He'd be decent cover, but we've already got enough cover in the center.

Technically, Kjlestian is good enough to play in Europe but he will not make an immediate impact for any team he goes to. He needs to improve his defense and adjust to the faster paced game. He has demonstrated that he can play at this level when he wants to and shows flashes of brilliance when he plays internationally but then drifts out of games and can seem a step slow or behind at times.

When he is on his game, he has moments of brilliance. He is extremely creative and can make sublime plays but he has to concentrate more(for a full 90 minutes every game). He has publicly acknowledged this and stated that he needs to work on his defensive game if he is going to play in Europe.

Like many gifted players in the US\MLS he has been able to get by and dominate people throughout his life because he is simply so much better than them. At a higher level, he needs to realize that he has to play full speed all the time.

If we were to get him he would be a very good acquisition (about a year after arriving). In the short run, I wouldn't envision him as anything more than a 60th/70th minute substitute if we were down a goal and looking for a spark.

I do think he would be a good acquisition. This analysis applies to where he would fit for Celtic not the rest of the SPL - he is good enough right now to start for probably 7 or 8 of the other 11 teams.
