Leicester linked with Riordan bid

Discussion in 'Transfer Rumours' started by Chuck Norris, Aug 20, 2007.

  1. Derek Riordan's agent claims that Leicester City are poised to make a move for the Celtic striker this week.

The 24-year-old former Hibernian forward, previously linked with Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich, has become frustrated by his lack of games.
Agent Jim McArthur told The Sun: "Leicester have been in touch and I'd expect them to step it up.
"I've spoken with their owner, Milan Mandaric, and I would like to think something could move this week." <!-- E SF -->
McArthur pointed out that the English Championship outfit had lost out to Cardiff City in their attempts to sign Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink.
"They went in for Hasselbaink and didn't get him and now they've turned their attentions to Derek," said the Scotland international's agent.

Mandaric had last week told the Daily Mail: "I can confirm that Martin Allen has an interest in Riordan, for sure. "There are some discussions going on between us and Celtic. We're at an early stage." Discussions with Sheffield Wednesday failed to produce a move earlier this week. And Riordan has also been linked with a move to West Brom and Norwich City. The Scotland international said last month that he would use the month of August to contemplate his future.<!-- E BO -->

  2. After Aidan's stinker on Saturday, I think he would be daft to go. I can see him getting a chance soon.

Derek Riordan's agent claims the out-of-favour Celtic striker is in line to join ambitious Championship outfit Leicester this week. The 24-year-old former Hibernian forward has not played for the Hoops yet this season and has been linked previously with Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich.

Agent Jim McArthur described Riordan's spell out of the Celtic team as "frustrating" for the player.

McArthur added in The Sun: "Leicester have been in touch and I'd expect them to step it up.

"I've spoken with their owner Milan Mandaric over the weekend and I would like to think something could move this week.

"They went in for [Jimmy-Floyd] Hasselbaink and didn't get him and now they've turned their attentions to Derek."

  4. Deek is no left winger, if we qualify for the CL group stages then i think WGS will sign a winger, a fullback and a striker. Especially if he can get rid of Jiri and Graveson.

I just don't think WGS fancies him, might as well let him go. He's going to be 25 this season, he is not young now. If he's never going to play let's get some cash for him and bring in someone that WGS will play.

  5. i reckon that if we sold derek riordan we'd be regretting it after five years when derek flourishes into the top class striker we know he's gonna be. it appears he has a problem in his personal life with regards to the friends he keeps..... but as long as he's scoring goals, he should play.

  6. You don't have 5 years at Celtic to flourish mate. Maybe if he was 16, but not when he's almost 25.

  7. Were talking about a guy who scored at least 18 goals for Hibs for 3 straight seasons before joining us. This is the kicker, he is proven, and still young enough to develop even further like the last poster suggested. You want 20 goals from a striker, put him up front beside JVOH... hed prove it if he had the chance, again.

  8. The boy has talent. It's just a pity that we are not benefitting from it.

  9. I think Derek should stick around til the Jan transfer window, then if things are still the same look for a move, he has nowt to lose he is young enough.

I dont think WGS would care what he does outside work unless it affects his football. I am guessing but I think the problem is probably that he likes his sauce a lot and it shows in his fitness levels. Its certainly not his technique which is top drawer so it must be his fitness. I dont think he has the fitness to do the running and chasing WGS wants his strikers to do for 90 minutes. I would love to see him play regularly alternating as cover for Aidan and Miller and taking their place if he was more effective (which he would be often).
