    What’s all this about?

Has there been a new bid or is it just because he flew home?

  2. Presumably we’ve better facilities for rehabbing a player at Lennoxtown than they do at training camp in Austria.

Why fly him out to them in the first place then?

I disagree with Larson, he was getting very good money here possibly a few of the top teams were paying more but not many & not by much. I was comparing leagues rather than individual clubs.
Mcstay I take your point but again I didn’t say he was on the maximum he could have been on.
I was meaning his wage was possibly comparable to other leagues.

The difference in money for KT is frightening it could be multiples of 3, 4, 5 times or more compared to what he’s supposedly on currently. Larsson was on nearly twice more than KT nearly 20years ago, that’s a massive point.
Larsson was never going to be offered £200k - £250k a week which would be an equivalent uplift. So it’s a bit disingenuous comparing as if they are like for like.

Players hold all the power in modern football if he wants to stay he will and if he goes it'll be his choice, certainly won't turn against him the money on offer is ridiculous and tbh as much as he loves the club he's been run into the ground for the last two years and its done his development no favours whatsoever.

Also don't think that staying for the 10 holds the kind of allure we think it does, he's been part of an invincibles team and one that won three trebles in a row his place in Celtic history is already secure with or without 10iar.

@SUMMER TIME ....Larsson would be on that now....easily.
Just goes to show how football wages have just went far too * up.

Mind Roy Keane was the first player to get 50k a week?

    Changed times man. Mental

  7. Maybe he’s not as far down the line as they he was.

You're quite invested in this idea (that no one would refuse that kind of money) from all the posts of yours I've seen today.

It's actually not only "easy to say"; it's just obvious. I will die, you will die, one day (hopefully long in the future) everyone we love will die... what matters are the lives we touch not the money we earn. While money is a good thing all things being equal, sometimes we have to make a choice and, if you don't have children and have a roof over your head and food to eat, money is far less important than so many other things.

Of course if you have children, that equation changes somewhat for people who aren't on the kind of wages footballers are on; but KT is on those kind of wages. Staying at Celtic, realistically KT's future kids are never going to live in want.

As for me, I took a pay cut to accept my current job, I refused bonuses to do with selling courses in my last job (while accepting a small bonus I got at one point in recognition of hard work), I have turned down a pay rise in the past.
I'm not a saint, even on here there are many nicer people than me. I do many things I know are wrong and later regret (including a couple of somewhat nasty posts on here this week, because I was annoyed); but the relative importance of money is so clear to me that on this one, I definitely walk the walk.

Let me put it this way: you are on your death bed reflecting on your life. What kind of legacy do you prefer to leave: Tommy Burns or (to pick a random name) John Guidetti? I'm pretty sure the latter must have made a lot more money already.

At the end of the day, Arsenal are a real club who would provide him with a platform to develop his considerable potential and be the best he can be. He'll also have a real chance at a European trophy that we can't currently provide. I hope he stays; but if he leaves, there's no reason to just assume it's all about the money.

Why would the club make up a lie and say he's back for rehab instead of saying he's away to speak to Arsenal?

Thing is McGinn is worth more than KT now he’s played in England for a season. We won’t get more than 25 for Tierney as he has only played in Scotland.

He was under the knife only a month ago so celtic will be just playing it safe...but media saying its because he is going to sign.......make of it what you will.

Aye, I can accept that Larsson's potential jump in wages wouldn't be anywhere near what Tierney's would likely be but he would still have been able to command more elsewhere. For example if Man Utd's bid for him was successful.

McStay had interest from Inter Milan and Juve who were paying the top salaries in Europe in the 90s. He definitely could've got much more than what we were paying him...and at a club that was actually competing for things at that point.

I’ll go along with this version of events.

‘Kieran Tierney has flown home to use the Lennoxtown gym all he was doing was cycling in Austria and his rehab needs more than that so he’s flown home to work on his rehab/recovery in better facilities at Celtic. He has NOT been rushed home to sign for Arsenal or anyone else.‘

Bit weird why he was flown out originally then. Its believable but still why wouldn't they have thought about that when they knew the facilities we would have out there..

I did say that, the hard of thinking amongst us just couldn’t use common sense.
