Feels like a new signing. So happy that his move didn't come to fruition.

I don't think he actually wanted to go in the first place.

Aye mate, it was obviously just a test of his loyalty.

Glad he's staying, think he will be great for us if he gets the chance, can't see him pushing kolo or Erik out of the squad though as they are both crucial for us. If we go 3 CB at the back though it could work quite well with him and lustig possible rotation

It was a bit of an odd one trying to sell him in the first place imo.

I actually think Celtic played a blinder as they refused to blink :56: Torrino were at it thinking they could mess with a wee Scottish club and they wouldn't have dared to play that game with an EPL club. Everyone knows there's no money in Scottish football so some try to beat us down on deals. I think Celtic just showed a statement of their intent.

I think he prob does have a chronic injury problem, which surfaces now and again, but it would be a mistake to bin him. We only have to look back to BBJ when the old RFC knocked him back and look at the job he did for us.

If we were willing to let him leave then maybe Rodgers wasn't keen on what he saw and doesn't rate him.

I'm not over the moon to have someone back, who obviously wanted leave us.

Yeah, Lawwell's quite good at that to give him his due. Same when we're buying: I know we often complain when we miss out on deals in the short term; but in the long term clubs don't often even try to cheat us anymore because they know we won't pay over the odds or accept less than a player is worth.

Now if only our medical staff were as intimidating... :smiley-laughing002:

  13. Did he want to leave though or were the club just keen to recoup the money they had spent on him? All summer he's seemed buzzing on social media to get back involved playing for us.

I know mate, it's a bit of a head scratcher.

On one hand, I hope that's the case but on the other, I don't because it would mean that the board don't care about what BR thinks (assuming he rates Jozo, anyway).

Either way, JS will now need to come out and say that he decided he didn't want to leave and turned the move down, even though they were offering more money, blah blah blah

Tend to agree but it doesn't change the fact that we and therefore BR were prepared to sell him. Suggests that BR doesn't see him as part of his mobile, high pressing back line.

or a player that hasn't featured much was subject to a very reasonable bid, it was probably a 50/50 in my opinion I don't think there was any hurry to get him out the door.

Initially that was my thinking but then, if we are going to fet CL money and planned to reduce wage bill with outs, why would we consider breaking even on an untried, quality player? Conclusion , BR doesn't see him as his type of player or doesn't think this injury will ever go away.

What I've seen of him, seems to be an excellent defender in the no compromise Sviatchenko mould. I wonder if we gambled on his fitness given the state of the transfer market?

Would therefore make sense to recoup ~100% of the costs if we can. But at same time (when fit) seems to be a real physical force so have no problem with keeping him. Needs to shake off this injury though once and for all.
