CELTIC want to bring loan star Landry N'Guemo to Parkhead for good - but are looking at a cut-price deal.

The Cameroon midfielder's French club Nancy want £1.8m - but Celts hope to knock £600,000 off any transfer fee.

Nancy are keen for the cash and have offered Celtic left wing back Jean Calve to make up the difference - a player wanted by former Hoops boss Tony Mowbray last summer.

Calve, 26, has spent the last season on loan at Grenoble but won't be returning after their relegation from France's top flight.
Ironically, he was tracked by Rangers two years ago and has also been linked with Stoke and Blackburn.

He still has two years left on his contract - and Nancy want to get Calve off their books.

Celtic are just as keen to find some left backs.
Edson Braafheid has returning to Bayern and Lee Naylor is out of contract.

Celtic’s negotiations over the transfer of Landry N’Guemo could see them take a third player from AS Nancy in the space of a year. The clubs are thrashing out a deal to make the transfer of Cameroonian N’Guemo permanent and Nancy have offered a defender as part of the package.

N’Guemo has been on loan at Parkhead this year under an agreement which gives Celtic first option to seal a permanent transfer if an agreement is reached by the end of May. However, the SPL club are thought to be unwilling to pay the price of £1.8 million.

Representatives of both clubs have met in Paris to settle the deal but are some distance apart in their valuation of the midfielder, who will play for his country in next month’s World Cup. Nancy have reportedly added defender Jean Calve to the package as a sweetener.

Calve has spent the last season on loan at Grenoble but will be returning to his parent club after the side were relegated to Ligue 2. Though under contract for another two years, Calve is not part of Nancy’s first team plans and they are keen to remove him from their wage bill.

If Celtic agree to the deal then Calve could become the third ex-Nancy player on the books at Parkhead, joining N’Guemo and Marc-Antoine Fortune, who joined the Hoops for £3.8 million last summer.

Calve could solve a problem position for the Glasgow club who will be short in the left-back area. Danny Fox, first choice left back at the start of the SPL campaign, was sold in January and with Lee Naylor out of contract and Edson Braafheid set to return to Bayern Munich after his loan deal expires Celtic are short of cover.

Nancy has continually loaned him out so he can't be a cracking left-back..

He's 26 and has either played for or been loaned out to the lower French sides his whole career, only making 10 league appearances for Nancy. So no, not what we need.

    Whatever.
I have no problem waiting for a done deal until the 31th May if we can get him cheaper than that.
Better to take the time to negotiate than paying the full price right away.

I am a season book holder and for the money celtic are paying for nquemo is crazy money, we have a player in marc crosas who does the exact same as him and can pass a ball that doesn't go to the opposition::86:

Celtic agreed the price at the start of the season - they knew what they wanted at that point and every party was happy. All of a sudden we have started penny-pinching. The player is worth the money and Celtic agreed to it - get him bought. It's like agreeing a £20 bet with someone at the start of the season and then haggling with them for a tenner instead of £20.

don't need to be sorry mate:50: I rate NGuemo but his passing lets him down. He is a better player than Brown and will cost a quarter of the price. Our best spell under Mowbray this season was when Crosas and NGuemo played together, and one of our worst spells was when NGuemo went to the African Cup of Nations. We have a good set price for him considering Wigan and Sunderland are looking at him for 3 mil so i think, if we want the player, we should stop penny-pinching and just get on with the transfer

mate your spot on with crosas, but i don't see many differences with these players? if crosas wasen't a good player barcalona woudn't have a buy back on the boy. Brown is poor though at the end of the season he was actually back to what he was at hibs, and i think thats down to lennon, If we get money for brown aye take it no problem but what we miss is some fight and someone who can score or set up. I always say we miss petrov because no ones replaced him at the centre of midfield:icon_mrgreen:

This is what REALLY annoys me about Marc Crosas. I'm not saying he is a bad player, i like him, but if he is as good as your making out with this "buy back clause", then why havent they came calling?

It's ridiculous to even think they will, and even more ridiculous to also use that as a valid arguement that he is better than [insert name].

Reading through this thread you would think it was the N'Guemo thread actually.

Got to agree there. It was in the initial contract of the loan agreement and should noit be open to negotiation. However, if the board do not think he is worth that much then they shouldnt bother. If they said they would stump up the 1.8million then they should not be trying to lower that price. Thing is if they end up deciding that they want him they'll end up paying £5-6 million. Look at Fortune, TM agreed a £1million deal after the loan. He leaves WBH, comes here and we pay * £3.8million.
