My current UK passport expires next month and I am looking at the possibility of getting an Irish passport, basically I am after some advice, how far back are you allowed to go? Is it just to Grandparents or further, do I need to contact Dublin or the embassy in London to apply, I can Riverdance a little, if that helps :celt_2:

I would probably qualify for an Irish, British, Scottish (if they go independent that is), Lithuanian (if I learned the language:smiley-laughing002: ), Swedish, which I have, Finnish and maybe even an American at a stretch now that I think about it.:icon_mrgreen:

Ive a couple of protestant/unionist friends here who travel on irish passports, their reason - " they found themselves treated better entering countries and they feel safer holding an irish passport than a british one"
Horse's for courses i suppose, i have an irish one and would never hold a british one.

I have both, and generally I only use my UK one when I'm coming back to Glasgow. Sometimes having an Irish passport and name, but a Scottish accent and nationality can make getting through security a bit of a nightmare.

I stole it from a German guy.
