For me living in Australia I watch Celtic on Setanta sports ($10 a month) to do this I had to get in Foxtel (Sky) to my home. This gives me the whole SPL which is what I want, but I didn't want to pay for the entire foxtel package that had to go with it.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

I used to have channel 67 but found it expensive even though the link was good, but now for the same price I get to see other SPL games (which I didn't get with channel 67).

Now my main point is that I pay to see Celtic (indirectly) but many others watch celtic on illegal links. Usually the people watching these links complain that Celtic don't have enough money to compete but are happy to pay nothing. These links are even posted on this site which I feel jeopardises the club financially.

Now I know that some people can't afford to pay money for Foxtel etc around the world and just want to watch Celtic play any way possible.

But to watch these links people need the net, my suggestion is for SPL to have a fully operational website once the TV deal is finished (this gives them time to get it working). They could then charge £1 per game out of the UK and £5 in the UK if the game at the stadium isn't sold out and £1 if it is.

I would guess that around the world the SPL could get between 2-5 million viewers (you pick the game you what to watch).....we could have games all on a Saturday (if not in Europe) and maybe do special weekends during the season for USA, OZ, ASIA time zones (advertised well).

This would be around 40 odd weekend of games......which would bring in around £80m+ a year (which I personally would share equally to get the other SPL members to say yes). This would be an increase in money from media to what we already have. If you have a good website and streaming with cheap games millions around the world would watch it. High numbers at cheap will bring in millions for all SPL clubs.

We need to embrace the web before it's too late, your thoughts on the numbers that we could get to a SPL channel on the web, where you can choose your Saturday game.

Also can we have a poll to see how Celtic fans watch / listen our team?

I don't think anyone has actually took the time to read your whole post, shame that.

Personally, I'll go to the pub to watch the game, due to financial reasons I've only been able to make it to the odd game but your idea of selling the SPL as individual games online, although good in theory, could bring about a fair degree of uncertainty with regards to income on a weekly or annual basis, unfortunately.

Streaming sites such as myp2p have already been to court and been granted the legal go ahead to stream live football in the uk, people won't pay a fiver to watch a stream they can view for nothing albeit in reduced quality.............

yeah probably not a fiver but a couple of quid for a link might work. Obviously it would be hard to judge what revenue comes in each week but I wouldn't mind paying a couple of quid for a better quality streaming link if the club is making money.

I'd fork out a couple of quid to watch the game on a good link, definately.

I get to as many games as i can but im not exactly rolling in the money and im included in the "UK and irish people should be going to games instead of watching" which i see as a bit unfair because ireland is a seperate country and not joined onto scotland so telling us we should be going to every game and limiting the amount they show on telly is ridiculus IMO (i have paid for ESPN to get as much games as possible btw). If i have the money il go into town to murrays and watch the celtic matches i cant get on telly on their second sattelite but usualy i would do streams to be honest.

thats what I'm saying " They could then charge £1 per game out of the UK and £5 in the UK if the game at the stadium isn't sold out and £1 if it is." The clubs could alway make sure the games are sold out, if they new a couple of hundred thousand people in the UK would buy the stream.

I live in OZ where there thousands of Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen (lots of them btw) who are desperate to watch the team they love....give it to them for a £1 and bring in the money.

How did you get the £80million?

    Would every game be streamed?

I'm not sure the SPL is attractive enough to get 2million paying viewers every week, even at £1 a game.

The fact that the income would be completely unknown on a week to week basis I think would make it impractical to implement. How many people do you reckon are going to pay to watch Motherwell v Hamilton etc.

If I could get to see all the Celtic games for £1 per game and only had to buy those I wasn't going to then sure I'd do that but internet streams are here to stay so a fair amount of people wouldn't pay for it.

The unpredictablility of the income stream, plus the cost of providing a high quality stream for all 6 games each week means I cant see this taking off.

This not only aides the streamers by giving easy access, but undermines the big prize which is deals with sky or ESPN. Nice idea but can't see it happening. I watch games from just behind the away dugout ;p but for away games I try and get streams or go to pub...

Good thinking but wouldn't work imo. We are struggling to sell out games now so give people the chance to pay £5 to watch instead of £25 then the crowds will fall even more.
