Gay England Player

According to reliable sources of Twitter and Facebook, one of the England team who played on Wednesday night vs Denmark, has done an interview with the Sun to to be printed on Sunday coming out as gay. Wonder who it is? I reckon its Andros Townsend. Fair play to them whoever it is, brave lad.

 

Would love to live in a world where this isn't news.

Why is this still headline/breaking news? So * if a guys gay. With all that has happened lately, gay marriages etc, why is it still a frowned upon topic within football? And I'm not buying the idea that all football fans are * homophobic either. Load of * that players are made to feel this is a big deal.

 

How many openly gay footballers do you know ? It shouldn't be a big deal but it is. Until a few players come out while playing at the top level it will be big news.

 

It's prob someone with their place on the plane to Brazil in danger.

 

I hope his career is over when this comes out.

 

It's a big deal because that's how the media want it to be played out. If it was down to the everyday football fan most people wouldn't give a * or even want to know.

I agree with previous posters. The fascination with whether we have gay footballers or not is beyond belief. While you will always have individuals who will take it to the extreme, this perception that footballers will somehow disown a team-mate is a false pretence(in my experience). To the best of my knowledge, no-one I have played football with is homosexual. I have been involved in a women's team where we had two players in a relationship and another two who were gay/lesbian or whichever title people wish to give.

Echo the thoughts of those saying it shouldn't be a big deal, however as it will be a first in this country it is a big deal. Hopefully after this it wont be as big a deal for others out there.
