What's with the nicknames for him spinning around? Seen a lot of people call him a monkey and a gorilla.

Here's an exchange from the WC thread, for example:

I just don't get it. Seems offensive. :97:

    He looks like an ape.

Why the * is that offensive? Except to Bale... and apes of course, they don't hit the deck so easy.

Judging someone on how they look is offensive.

They are not judging him on how he looks, merely commenting on how he looks.

It is not racist to remark that a man is white or black.

It's not a mere comment when they use it in relation to him being a 'diving *', etc. As if him appearing to be a monkey has anything to do with the fact.

Maybe it's just laziness on posters behalf, I don't know. Seems strange.

He's a diving monkey *, don't see what is offensive or inaccurate about that

Substitute black for monkey in this statement and it would be racist.

He's a diving * who has a striking resemblance to some form of ape.

Might be offense but really who gives a *? It's not exactly a lie is it?

Only because that's what you want to think.

Are you saying that I would be a racist if I said I thought Michael Clarke Duncan looked like a gorilla? :97:

I don't know about you - but I do not associate black people with monkeys/apes or any other jungle creature.

Lol how many people are offended by Rooney's comparison to shrek? Haven't seen much outrage about that in the past, and i can't see a difference to this. Infact, both are very good shouts. One is a fat ugly * and the other is a cheating monkey looking *.

I don't understand how saying Bale looks like a monkey is offensive?

It's because people want to be offended.

It's simple; there's ways of referring to people, and calling them animals isn't right, especially given the historical connotations. Even more so, considering it wasn't so long ago that British football people were ridiculing people based on their physical characterisations.

Well *......I better not refer to the great Eusebio as "The Black Pearl" again.

Or Leon Barnett as "Bambi on Ice".

Like i say.....some people imo are just looking for something to be offended at.
