I understand that Fergus is a very private individual, who isn't fond of the attention and accolades.

However, I believe it would be the perfect chance to invite him to Celtic Park to help us celebrate 2IAR in style. Afterall, it would be approximately 15 years to the day where a minority of our support disgracefully booed him on and off the park in what is one of the worst days in modern Celtic history. It would be tremendous and humbling both to me, many other Celtic supporters and Fergus himself to put that right with a reception that a man who saved our club from liquidation thoroughly deserves. If he declined then fair enough, but the legendary Sean Fallon participating summer last summer only reminds us that so many of our legends - on the park and off it - aren't getting any younger and Sean's death makes it all the more poignant and fitting that he received the opportunity that men of such stature deserve, before it's too late.

I'd personally welcome him back to Celtic Park with open arms.

Everyone has their differing opinions on him, but at the end of the day, the man saved our club and is essentially the founding father of the modern day Celtic, from the 1990s onwards.

Look across to the other side of the city right now. They thought they had their Fergus when one Craig Whyte first sauntered in the main doors of Ibrokes, but how wrong they were :smiley-laughing002:

I don't think he's really that interested tbh first and foremost he's a businessman and he done what he said he would, but it isn't to be forgotten the share issues and the fans are just as much to thank for our club still being here

Why did they boo him in the first place?

"What some perceived as McCann's abrasive manner, coupled with his preoccupation with building a sustainable infrastructure for the club off the field rather than a title winning one on it, prompted sustained criticism during much of his tenure."

its a very interesting period of our history, I think would make an fasinating film or tv programme.
My memories at the time, were that McCann wasn't fully appreciated in his role. Jock brown was brought in to take some of the flak and be the General Manager.

It was great following and supporting that team ( burns') growing up. We beat teams at a canter playing attacking football.

McCann deserves recognition for the job he did. Taking on coruption like Jim Farry. Rebuilding the club as a business and lay the foundations for the future.

Aye, def. worth it but back then (even now as we can see) apparently a big topic for discussion. Think he is one of the major reasons we are doing so well now...

Was he not a bit of an * hole to Tommy burns? Did he not try and sneak him out the back door, or was that somebody else?

I think a lot of people were * off because off his falling out with Wim Jansen over Jock Brown, which in the end led to Wim leaving and that was a reason for the booing.

Wee Fergus had his faults and they are well documented, but he saved our club from oblivion. He was open and honest with us the supporters in what he said and did, we may not have agreed with him some of the time. But for me he'd be more than welcome back. :50:

Aye, I booed him. Dont regret it either, yes the stadium is his legacy, and I genuinely thank him for it. But i detested the way he treated Celtic fans and Celtic players, the man was pig ignorant, and thought he was bigger than the club. Dont you all remember this was the same wee man who was intent on changing our crest from the 4 leafed clover, to a thistle, in order to embrace our scottishness. This was the same wee man, who surrounded himself, and all the corridors of Celtic Park with his hand picked masonic mob. Cant you remember Eric Black, who was on more money than our assistant manager Murdo McLeod, dont you remember head of security George Douglas, Peter McLean as his P.R., Jock Brown, the list is endless. Yes he stood up for Celtic, when he should have, but he only defended his own asset. Do you remember Andy Walker re-signing for us, and him asking Walker, "who are you son". And dont forget this is the same wee man, who wanted to fleece more and more money out of our fans. Leave him where he is, he has made his dosh out of us, the league flag belongs to Celtic and not Fergus McCann :38:

I think wee Fergus is a candidate for the greatest living Celt, without him we would probably have gone to the wall. I appreciate his faults but he laid the business plan for what we are today, a club virtually debt free and successful on the park....Hail Hail Fergus
