    derren brown; hero at 30,000ft.
i think real. but my fiancee read on google that matt was acting as he knew exactly what to say when he was talking to the van driver, in the health and safety parts of the show they wouldn't have allowed people to be tied to a train track, i seen one of his shows last night but my fiancee couldn't help but think it's been staged somehow.

    what do you guys think?

Of course it's staged, he calls himself an illusionist.

Its definitely staged mate , no matter what anyone tells me. HE DOES NOT DENY THIS

He comes as close as you can do to saying its staged, without saying its staged.
His biggest trick is making people believe its real. But I think his last shows have been alot of arseing around and now he is even beginning to lose credibility with his own fan base.

I have no doubt he is amazing at what he does, and that his standup's are real. But most of his defenders come from the 'I have seen his standup and its real crowd'. And So what ????

The lottery was obviously the biggest con that has ever been broadcast on television. And that 30,000 ft episode was the second.
Of course he would not be allowed to be tied up to a train track for the sake of Darren Brown and his smugness.
The actor also seemed to be the most calmest man on the planet when the train was coming, no struggle ,no swearing or nothing.
Then he turned up to his house , turns around with the face of Krusty the Clown and goes to the park.
Where did the pen and paper he was drawing with come from ?
How where the camera's allowed to get some serious close up shots ?
Terrible acting and a terrible show.

    Seriously.

Everything he does is skill and trickery, exceptionally good no doubt, but anyone can learn how to do what he does given they have the intelligence and put in the effort.

He's never claimed to be particularly gifted in any way, infact I remember he did a program a few years back exposing people as frauds, went over to america and pretended to be a spiritualist like that john edwards or colin fry do, and he was just as convincing, if not more.

He's totally open about it all being tricks, reading people's body language, power of suggestion, psychology with a dollop of showmanship and charisma on top, which can actually go a frightening long way if you know what you're doing.

I just love that he's banned from casinos all over the place because he was so good at counting cards. Can't have people winning money, no sir!

Aye that's what he does. He reads the person. Plays tricks on them.

I think it's staged. They wouldn't be allowed toput that man on the train tracks. Plus it seemed to be going pretty slowly...
However I do enjoy watching his shows. There was a series last year and it was quite interesting stuff that he did. Like he took this lady to a massive toy shop and got her to pick a random toy, but he was kinda dropping hints in what he said. Nobody knew until he explained. I don't think that was staged. But I'm certain some stuff is

Depends what you mean by 'staged'. I don't think he's ever used any 'actors', as it would be far too risky if they were to expose him (and that would definately happen with the money the red tops pay for stories). But you can't take everything at face value, and he's completely honest about that so I don't see the problem.

It's tricks and illusion for the sake of entertainment and it's fantasic.

But on one of his shows I watched he got a woman on stage and there was a tub of buttons and he got her to take a few hand fulls of them and he guessed correctly twice how many there was. My girlfriend seems to think he puts everyone to sleep and then he fixs it...

Derren Brown himself doesn't claim any special abilities.

Some of the things he is capable of without being 'staged' are incredible though, he's really really intelligent.
