We've not kept a clean sheet since the home game against Alashkert, and it's no secret that defending isn't our strength.

I wanted to see what everyone's opinion is as to why we struggle to keep teams out, both domestically and in Europe. I know we have tended to outscore opponents in Scotland so it's not much of an issue, however when we aren't firing them in it then makes matches very tense and the odd goal can swing it for the opposition - and in Europe, we are extremely vulnerable particularly from set pieces and crosses into the box (something that has affected us since deila as well).

So what's the problem? Is it tactics? Do Rodgers and Kennedy need to do more with the team in training? Or are the defenders just not up to scratch? We've bought guff players for those positions so we will struggle to get them to the required level? Or is the way we play too attacking and we will naturally concede this many goals?

The defenders arent good enough for Rodgers philosophy when we step up in class. Its as simple as that. Hendry is a good example, he has a lot of the qualities needed in a Rodgers CB but hes a few bob short. Ajer and Boyata are clearly the best options and both also have weaknesses, Ajer is not really a CB and just watch Boyata for the first Bayern goal in the CL last season.

When the likes of Lennon and Strachan played in Europe, we had a decent park the bus to banks of 4 system to fall back on, Rodgers refuses to change his philosophy and I can respect that, although it means we end up getting tankings when we are outclassed.

    Defenders aren't good enough.
They crumble at the slightest hint of pressure and physicality in games and struggle against the likes of Lafferty and Steve MacLean on a regular basis.

Last clean sheet was away in Rosenborg.

We don’t have the personnel to play the way we want to play.

KT, Ajer and Izzy are the only ones I trust.

I trust almost all of our midfield and attack options.

Tactics for the most part but for this also management. Too much fannying about the defence as well as playing to open. The defenders aren't good enough for this type of system however they may have been able to do a job for WGS.

Interestingly Lustig is less of a liability playing at a higher level with Sweden. Even Boyata looked competent for Belguim. Throw in an obviously talented Tierney and a raw but decent quality Ajer and we should have no problem with the likes of Athens are similar(unseeded) we could meet in CL qualifying.

All of the above but mostly down to coaching.

No doubt in my mind someone like Strachan would’ve got us through the AEK tie and wouldn’t be getting record defeats in Europe with these defenders.

We still need better defenders but we could sign Ramos and Chiellini and Rodgers would have them all over the shop.

It's a bit of all the above, moreso due to how rodgers coaches the defence and the current crop of defenders. Thank * for Ronny developing tierney and buying ajer otherwise who knows what * we'd have in the rest of our defence.

would bite you baws off to have EFE & Caldwell back :56:

You'd have thought the defense would be sorted, its been an issue for years but never gets addressed properly. Bar KT it Needs a complete overhaul including Gordon.
