It's not your fault your wrong. About 20 is about 20. About 20 odd is when adding figures above 20. Just the facts of the English language that you can't argue against.

As others have pointed out there's no proper consensus here. I'll just leave you live in your fantasy reality.

Never been a huge fan of Maeda, don’t dislike him though still think he’s decent . Does have some excellent games from time to time, particularly in games when we have less of the ball than usual (Europe, Rangers)

But the weekend showed it’s so much better having technical players out wide who can take men on and have end product. 9/10 times Maedas final ball is booted randomly. Think he’ll struggle to get his place back.

I'm with this :) Odd translates to 'about' for me...It's about 20 days..give or take..so could be 19 could be 21!

    Naughty step for Nakia:67:

If I was your employer and initially said I would pay 20 odd £ per hour….would you be happy with £18/£19 per hr.

It's certainly the most salient meaning for me in most* contexts including this one, but I can feel both meanings and the dictionaries I checked confirm both meanings, at least in British English.

    * But not all. Like if I ask you how old someone is and you say "20 odd", I'm expecting 21 or 22 not 19.

Can we take this odd chat to its own thread ffs, it’s been going on for about 30 odd days.

(it definitely can mean less when people have used it in real world conversations I’ve had previously, logical or no :fear:)

The reason, for me anyway, that 30 odd would mean 30 and above, is because I think of the odd being added on to the 30. I've never came across a situation where someone meant less than the number. :giggle1:

I'd last around 20 odd minutes if I was ever to share manly fluids with him.

By that I mean about 3.5 seconds.

    Close enough

It’s a matter of fact, though; not opinion:’20-odd’ for ‘about 20’ is literally incorrect.

    https://english.stackexchange.com/q...-the-odd-in-n-odd-years-come-from/18971#18971

' The origin of the suffix ‐odd is, unsurprisingly, the word odd, denoting a surplus or remainder (OED entry for odd, lemma 3a). This use dates back to the 14th–15th century. Based on the OED examples, its earliest uses were with monetary items and with terms denoting weights and measures, but by the 17th century this use had broadened to include other count nouns as well. The structure of such examples is still NUM-odd-N, where odd is an adjective.'

surplus ..more than, FU Collins dictionary :)
