    Good save.

Still doesn’t change my opinion of him now.

The save was good but my opinion is the same.

There is obviously a difference between saving a shot from Neymar and from a nobody of Motherwell.

It obviously demanded fantastic reflexes but a better striker wouldn't have shot so close to the keeper. To deal with better players you need more: positioning, command, agility. He is specially bad at positioning. Whenever we have to deal with better players this weakness shows off.

Regardless, still good. He is a Celtic player, he has been important and made several good matches for us for many years, but it's not one save that will make me convinced we will need a replacement for him if we want to be better than we are now.

A nobody from your local town can once in a while smash a shot or header better than neymar. Doesnt matter who takes the shot. A qaulity shot is a qaulity shot.

Everyone knows he's capable of making a great save but that doesn't make him an all round great keeper. He still gets beat at his near post far too often, he still goes down in installments far too often and his kicking and distribution is * far too often. He's far too inconsistent and the fact that his supporters use one off great saves he makes maybe every 3 or 4 games to highlight his qualities shows this more than anything. I'd rather be praising a goalkeeper for their consistency and all round play rather than a great save every now and then.

  5. We must find better, finding a Forster might just help the Cb's in front of him perform a bit better.

I've been surprised at what Gordon achieved with us given his absence from football and his past injury concerns, but I've always felt he was a stop gap until Celtic could find something better, just his first season form led to him becoming the main man.

CG: “It feels great to have won it again. It’s another good start to the season. It’s the first goal we look at domestically and we managed to do it again this season. It’s a great place to start our season from and to go on and try and get more.”

CG: “That save was an important one. It came during an important stage because if it goes to 1-1 then it would have been a big lift for Motherwell and you never know what can happen from there on in."

CG: “It'll be right up there for me because of the importance of it being in a cup final and coming at a point in the match that turned the tide our way. A few minutes later we were 2-0 up and the game was pretty much done."

CG: “We went up a few gears in the second half and from there we were all very confident that we were going to get the win.”

CG: “The manager now has four trophies inside a year which is pretty special. That doesn’t happen often. You have to go back some distance to see an achievement like it.”

CG: “He’s always striving to get more out of the players and improve us so we’re always trying to give him that bit more."

CG: “You don’t have records like we have if you’re not a good manager and don’t have good players. It’s been a great time to be involved at Celtic.”

CG: “It’s a special group of players in this team. We know what we’re good at and our game plans and everyone is really well organised. To achieve what we have done has been a massive effort and we want to stretch it as long as we can.”

CG: “The players come into an environment every day where they can grow, learn and adapt to how the manager wants to play. We have a really good unit and he’s the one who created that from the day he came in."

CG: “No matter what happens in games we stay calm and work together. We go into games expecting to win and we know if we stick to our standards then we will win.”

AND on and on it goes. Celtic’s latest domestic conquest over Motherwell in the Betfred Cup at the weekend maintained an unbeaten run on the home front that seems to have been going on so long now, you can only find evidence of a defeat in the archives of the British Pathe newsreels.

It’s now 64 and counting for Brendan Rodgers’ men in their own backyard of the Scottish scene and Craig Gordon is not for letting this record-busting run slip from his grasp.

His instinctively brilliant close range save from Louis Moult’s header in Sunday’s final at Hampden underlined Gordon’s shot-stopping qualities.

The neutral observer will be hoping someone sticks a spanner in the Celtic works one of these days and brings their unbeaten sequence to a shuddering halt.

Gordon is well aware of that but that is merely driving him and his team-mates on to greater achievements.

Having won seven domestic trophies with his club and broken the 50 cap barrier for his country, Gordon is well on course to being one of Celtic’s most decorated custodians. At 34, there’s still plenty to more to come too.

“I’ve played almost all of my life and, now I’m getting towards the end, you start to look at these things,” said Gordon when asked about being placed in the pantheon of greats. “It does start to mean something.

“Being the third Scotland goalie to reach 50 caps was special. It’s now seven honours with Celtic and I want more. I’ve got two more years after this and I want to be playing in the team and getting as many as I can because it is so close now.

“I don’t have that long left. Hopefully, there will still be a few years and I can keep playing to the levels I reached at Hampden on Sunday and keep doing the job for the team.

“If I can do that and continue to help the team win, it’s going to be a good final few years of my career.

“There are a few who can go on and get to 40. You get ones who drop down and play second choice as they get older, but there are a few who can maintain their standards at that height.

“I’m not 35 until next month, so if someone like (Gianluigi) Buffon is one to aim for, I’ve still got nearly five years on him.

“I just want to keep playing as long as I can at the highest level and I want to keep playing in this team because this is a such a special time for the club and such a special group."

Gordon's reflex save from Moult was a crucial moment in the final and kept Cetic on course for a double treble.

“You never get tired of celebrating the lifting of a trophy," added Gordon.

“It stays with you. I’ll remember that when I finish my career and be able to look back and think of those finals I‘ve played in.

“It’s been a good run up until now and we want to try and stretch it as far as we can to try and leave the record at the highest possible point for anyone coming behind us to try and beat.

“That’s what keeps us motivated to keep winning. It’s football and we know that one day we will get beaten. That’s a certainty.

“But we want to try and make sure it is a long way away. We’ve done so well to get this far and we want to push it so no-one can get to it."

He has to take credit where it's due. Not only for Sun but for the part he's played in the Invincible Run! He's being a near ever present and has been pretty consistent, which is remarkable considering he's never really had a settled defence in front him.

However, to take us to the next level we need a GK who can actually play the way BR wants him too. Gordon has improved the kicking side of his game but doesn't come natural to him. And in Europe where ball retention is everything, he's a liability. His kicking is too slow and inaccurate.

Moments of domestic brilliance aren't enough for where we want to be. An upgrade is required.

He's a fantastic Keeper. Hopefully he can stay fit all the way to 10 in a row. Can't be easy playing with the awful central defenders in front of him as well where previous keepers were protected far more.

That save on Sunday was world class.

Will always remind me of Joe Hart. A reasonably good keeper in a team of far more quality players. Gets found out too often.

mate....i'm with you for 90% of this however i think we could have had Mani Neur in goal against PSG and still got gubbed. He's not faultless but the defence and others need to take their share of it too......still think they need to show more for him when he has the ball looking for a pass. If that is beyond the outfield players against PSG then that's understandable but i still think he's the lone scapegoat a lot of the time.

Hes just not an natural at kicking, even in domestically it has cost us. The way BR is trying to play at all levels means we need an upgrade. Not the easiest thing to find Tbf..

I knew you'd mention domestically and yu're right. You're also right about him not being a natural but i thought he had improved quite a bit. I still feel the outfield players don't make it easy for him...domestically we get away for it for most of the time but in Europe it's obviously been highlighted to a horrific extent. Putting it another way, PSG were also far more dominant than us when you're comparing the sides when they didn't have the ball. Seems to be a lot easier for other keepers to find their men comapred to us.

Aye mate, as I said in my earlier post he deserves enormous credit for the part he's played under BR. And he has improved the kicking side of the game. He hasn't had a settles defence in front of him either..

It's not just PSG tho.. Bayern away was particularly chronic, he waits too long, is then is too inaccurate and makes the wrong decision..

He's good, but like our CBs he's just not good enough imo..

Agree with that last paragraph 100%. I'm happy where we are because I understand the constraints we're under. To get 3 of them would cost cash we just ain't looking at. Like you said, an upgrade keeper will be hard enough.

He isn’t good enough, a good point blank save against Motherwell any number of keepers could make changes nothing.
