I thought Charlie Mulgrew's weaknesses were exposed yesterday. For me, Charlie Mulgrew is not a centre-half. Not a good one anyway.

Mulgrew has a good left peg on him and he's a decent footballer but when it comes to defending he's really not that clever. In the last 4 Old Firm games Charlie Mulgrew has sailed through them because Rangers have only played one man up so he hasn't been put under a lot of pressure. Yesterday when the Huns played 2 up front, and Mulgrew was forced to mark a man and defend his corner, he really looked vulnerable. He's actually terrible at clearing his lines.

So many times I see Mulgrew mis-kicking the ball when he's trying to clear it and when he wins a header he doesn't head the ball "up and away" he tends to head it about 10 yards and down into the ground. This really drops us in the * sometimes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not totally ripping Charlie Mulgrew here - he's actually done fairly well this season - but yesterday was a timely reminder that he is no way a long term solution for us at centre-half.

Mulgrew wasn't that bad yesterday. He showed a lot of passion I thought, especially when he was about to be sent off. Rangers didn't have many chances yesterday and Mulgrew covered Rogne well.

    Knee-* reaction again.

Still, it shows how much we miss Maj.

I think Mulgrew was having to do a lot of covering for Rogne yesterday, who was being outmuscled most of the match. Not unexpectedly, this had a negative impact on Mulgrew's game.

I thought Thomas Rogne was better than Charlie Mulgrew yesterday. Rogne wasn't great either but he was the better of the two imo.

Mulgrew was one of out best yesterday, Rognes fault for both goals if you are knit picking ( didnt shut davis down, missed the header with the long ball to jelavic.) But the whole team was poor.

I thought charlie played well, a little out his depth at times. It just goes to show how much we missed big Maj yesterday, his hight strengh and poss his leadership qualitys. I thought ronge did ok but was a little weak in his tackles. The hole team did not perform well and i did think we mist lennons for the extra time team talk. Hail hail

    Same here.

He's not a natural CB but has covered extremely well in most games, he was poor yesterday but so was everyone else.

Totally disagree with this. Rogne looked like a schoolboy up against Jelavic yesterday. Mulgrew didn't have his best game for us (like everyone else) but I thought he put in a better performance than Rogne by a good bit.

    OT but........

Did Rogne get subbed because of injury yesterday or did he just get subbed because he had a bad game?

mulgrew was better than rogne yesterday i could not get over how bad rogne played got made to look like a wee boy, jelavic tore him a new *

what do you want from mulgrew we all know he is not a CB but he is doing what he is told and to be fair has done over all very well for a LB playing CB

also if it was not mulgrew when jelvic took it by rogne for the umteen time he would have had yet another change on goal

facts are lenny should have got in a CB or even 2 in the window it has shown in a few games now and cost us like today

just hope this is not going to cost us the leauge

ROGNE was the problem yesterday mulgrew covered him a couple of times yesterday and not spending decent money on a centre half as well.

I don't expect the moon and stars from Charlie Mulgrew. I understand his limitations, I just feel that there is always the potential for him to be a major weakness at the heart of our defence.

At the end of yesterday's match our centre backs were Loovens - Mulgrew. That's a frightening state of affairs tbh.
