    Celtic’s Martinez Interest Confirmed.

Swansea football club today confirmed that Celtic have officially enquired about their manager Roberto Martinez. On a day when Everton gaffer David Moyes removed himself from the equation, the odds on Martinez being Gordon Strachan’s successor look set to plummet.

Swansea Chairman Huw Jenkins confirmed that Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell had been in contact, stating:

“I had a call from Peter making me aware that they’d like to talk to Roberto. Like I’ve always done I’ve refused that until I’ve spoken to Roberto myself and talked things through.. I think you’ve got to respect what type of club Celtic are. Naturally, I suppose that interest would require anybody to sit and consider their position.”

Martinez - already tasted success with Swansea.

Martinez is already noted for his links to Scotland, having played for Motherwell 7 seasons ago, while his long-term partner is Scottish. While accredited with recent managerial success – guiding the Swans to promotion, and a respectable mid-table position in their first season back in the English Championship – supporters of the Bhoys will be sure to have their doubts with regards to Martinez’s suitability. His attacking brand of football would be sure to win over some of the fan base, yet names likes Moyes and even Slaven Bilic are sure to inspire more satisfaction amongst the Hoops faithful.

One thing is clear - that the wheels have been fully put into motion this week to find a successor for Gordon Strachan. Whether Martinez is viewed as sufficiently high-profile remains to be seen.

    TALK CELTIC MEMBER QUOTES:

    Ricardinho.

“I don’t really see why people think Bilic would be a great choice and Martinez would not. They’re both as inexperienced as each other, but at least Martinez has done it at club level.”

“There is a lack of experience in a lot of the supposed candidates. Celtic is not a club for managers under the age of 40 in my opinion. We could get lucky, but the number of young prodigy managers who fall away is huge.”

I can’t say I’m totally excited about this recent development. Nonetheless, if Martinez IS to be the next manager, I will give him my 100% support as I have done with every other Celtic manager.
