    Hello.

I remember a few years ago we played Rapid Vienna there was mutual hostility as the clubs had a sour relationship due to some history (that I'm unsure of). I also remember us conflicting with Athletico Madrid due to dirty tackling in a previous fixture.

Then, in the other hand, there was a lot of talk of our bond with Barca recently and I know that we have a good relationship with FC St Pauli (why is this?). I'm sure people have said to me that we have some sort of common ground with Liverpool too, but again I'm unsure why.

So..I'm just wondering if you could give me a list of clubs that are our friends and clubs that we don't quite see eye to eye with and the reason why/ any history of the two clubs meeting.

PS: Obviously not taking the Zombies into account as everybody hated them.

    So to begin we have...

    Barca :50:
    Liverpool :50:
    Fc St Pauli :50:

    Rapid Vienna :38:
    Athletico Madrid :38:

We used to have a fan friendship with Dortmund, but that was quite some time ago.

There are still a lot of Celtic supporters within the Dortmund fanbase though and vice versa. It would be nice to get one going again. Maybe between this forum and one of theirs or something like that. Two great clubs.

The only reason why we're associated with Liverpool is because of YNWA. There is no 'friendship' between the fans that I know of and no 'common ground'.

    Also on your list you can add;

    Santos Laguna :50:

    Hamburg SV :38:

The bad feeling with Rapid was due to a game in the Cup Winners Cup of 84/85 when we beat them 4-3 on aggregate which would have put us through. Stupidly one of our fans threw a bottle onto the park which missed everyone but a Rapid player seen it and took a dive, claiming it had hit him. As TV was not as much in use those days, they complained to Uefa and got the result overturned and we were forced to replay the "home" leg at Old Trafford. They won 1-0 and went onto face Everton in the final, where they lost.

The Atletico Madrid was more than just dirty tackling, was more like attempted murder.

They got 11 yellow cards and 3 red cards :smiley-laughing002:

Pepe Reinas da was their keeper and future managers Luis Aragones and Javier Irueta played for them.

Disagree about Liverpool, I * hate Liverpool. Would agree with C2911 about Dortmund. Pretty sure Dortmund player Kevin Grosskuertz is a huge Celtic fan.

If we have to get a top class team in the last 16 I'd like it to be them.

You must really have the blinkers on if you don't see the link we have with Barca.

Enlighten me then. It seems to me that our fans just want it seem like there is some sort of close relationship with them because they are the best but the fact of the matter is we have played them 4 times in 5 years and that is where the relationship ends.

Apparently he was in Baird's Bar after the 1-0 game last December.

Xavi Hernandez, the Barcelona midfielder, also stated that
“Celtic, like Barcelona, are more than a football club.” There has never been a truer word spoken. There is a well established bond between Celtic and Barcelona because of this, both clubs do not view themselves as another football club, they see themselves as a family. Barcelonas motto is ‘més que un club,’ and like their Catalan counterparts it’s no exaggeration to say that Celtic, too, is more than a football club. Both Celtic and Barcelona have a special bond with their fans. On Barcelona’s official website, it reads that the club is an ‘open and democratic’ club; while Peter Lawwell’s statement on the Celtic website reads that Celtic ‘at all times aims to promote inclusion, diversity and opportunity for all.’ Both clubs share a unique bond because it’s a matter of identity. To finish off Xavi’s quote, “Our clubs are a symbol of a culture and community that has not always been made welcome in their respective countries.” This is the reason why every time I tuned into watch Barcelona last season, there was always a Celtic jersey seen in the crowd.

Its political mate. Most Celtic fans, imo, sympathise with their stand on the Basque country.

Hence the famous quote from Xavi that "Celtic, like Barca have not been made too welcome in their respective countries".

I would say thats more to do with irish and catalunian politics than the football clubs themselves. But i see where youre coming from.
