Talk Celtic Preview: The Streak Continues

    Celtic v Kilmarnock
    SPFL, Wednesday 29th January 2014
    Celtic Park, 19:45

Following a short domestic break earlier in the month, the games are coming thick and fast again for Celtic as they host Kilmarnock at Celtic Park on Wednesday night.

With an aggregate score of 29-0 over their last ten SPFL games, Celtic has created a couple of reasons to maintain focus and carry their momentum forward into the later stages of the season. With the title long tied up, The Hoops have found motivation in the thought of going unbeaten throughout this season’s league campaign, as well as stretching the number of games they have not conceded. With such daunting form, the visitors will not fancy their chances of causing an upset.

Hibernian were the latest casualties of the Champions impressive league run at the weekend when the Hoops put four past the Edinburgh side at Easter Road. But after a poor start to their campaign and months of boardroom discontent, Kilmarnock fans have recently been given reasons to be cheerful as well. An impressive 2-0 victory at home against Inverness surprised many at the weekend, taking Killie to 8th in the league and creating a bit of breathing space between themselves and second bottom for the first time this season.

The return to form of their talisman striker Kris Boyd is one of the biggest reasons for the clubs positive turn of form – the striker notching his 13th of the season and his 180th goal in Scottish league football at the weekend. If the ex-Ger is to score at Celtic Park however he will need to up his game as the Celtic backline have not conceded since playing Aberdeen in November.

Despite only a few days break since the last league game, Lennon is unlikely to shuffle his pack too much however new Bhoy Johansen will be pushing for a start. Elsewhere, a late Pukki goal at the weekend may be enough to earn the striker a starting spot against Kilmarnock. For the visitors, their first 11 is likely to remain unchanged after a clean bill of health against Inverness and while the chances of them signing another ex-talisman Alexei Eremenko increase, the game on Wednesday night will come too soon for the club legend.
