Celtic to Sign Dragon in January
Celtic have announced that they will sign the South Korean midfielder Ki Sung-Yong from F.C. Seoul, for a reported fee of £2.1 million.
Ki in action for South Korea
The 20 year old Ki, known as one half of the “Double Dragon” – a term affectionately used by the fans of Seoul to describe himself and Lee Chung-Young, has made 54 appearances for the club and made a number of appearances at all levels for the South Korean national side.
Ki has attracted interest from English superpower Manchester United following his performances at the 2007 FIFA U-21 World Cup, and recently developed interest from the likes of PSV Eindhoven and Porto.
The Glasgow giants have previously indulged in the Asian market with mixed results, signing Japanese playmaker Shunsuke Nakamura resulting in great success and his 23 year old compatriot Koki Mizuno, who has been striving for a first-team place since his arrival in 2008. Former China Captain Du Wei also made one less successful appearance for the club.
Can Ki emulate the previous great Asian - Nakamura?
The move will be finalised in January, to allow for Seoul to participate in the Asian version of the Champions League. The highly rated midfielder will be hoping to end his reign at the club who nurtured him on a high, while Seoul are desperate to get the most out of their prize asset, coming into the crucial stages of the current K-League season.
