Japan now qualified for the world cup with a game to spare. Australia now through to a 4th round they should win and like face Uruguay, Chile or Peru.

Bosun Lawal started the game as well and was Ireland's captain.

Starfelt is on the bench, as Sweden is about to take on the Czech Republic.

The club football may be over for another season but in the international arena things are just starting to heat up.

With the World Cup not taking place until the winter, there are still a few teams fighting for a place in the competition.

One of those in contention is Scotland, who take on Ukraine in the semi-finals of the play-offs at Hampden on Wednesday, with the winners taking on Wales in Cardiff on Sunday.

There are plenty of Celts involved, with Callum McGregor, Greg Taylor, Anthony Ralston and David Turnbull all in Steve Clarke’s squad for the play-offs and three Nations League games against Armenia, Ireland and Armenia again.

There are more Celtic players taking part in Nations League games throughout Europe over the first few weeks of June.

Liel Abada is in the Israel squad for two games against Iceland, one versus Albania and a friendly with Argentina.

Giorgos Giakouamkis has four Nations League games with Greece, playing Northern Ireland, Cyprus and two games against Kosovo, while Josip Juranovic will hope to feature in Croatia’s four games in the tournament against Austria, Denmark and two meetings with France.

Carl Starfelt is in the Swedish team as he looks to add to his four caps against Slovenia, Serbia and Norway, while keeper Conor Hazard – on loan at HJK Helsinki – is in Northern Ireland’s team as they prepare to face Greece, Cyprus twice and Kosovo.

The last of the Celts in European contention is Liam Scales who is on standby in the Ireland team as they play Armenia, Ukraine twice and Scotland in Dublin.

Japan are preparing for the World Cup by hosting the Kirin Cup, playing against Paraguay, Brazil, Ghana and either Chile or Tunisia depending on how their games go, with Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda in the squad.

There’s European Championship qualifiers in the Under-21s, with four Celts involved. Adam Montgomery and Stephen Welsh are in the Scotland squad and could come up against Matt O’Riley, who is with Denmark as they face the Scots, while Johnny Kenny is with Ireland.

All the best to every Celtic player involved over the coming weeks.

He stated: “By the same token, the two boys from Celtic who played at the weekend came in on Sunday night, got assessed by our medics and were sent home. It’s easy because they’re in Glasgow. So no big drama on that one.”

It’s Scotland, that’s what Clarke said about Taylor and Forrest. He was explaining the decision to not make Che Adams travel and just accepted a letter from Torino.

Maeda came on in the 63rd min and scored Japan's 6th against China on the 87th min. No Reo on the bench.
