That’s a great result, Southampton have some brilliant prospects in their squad at the 16-18 age range

Celtic FC B kicked off their Glasgow Cup campaign by defeating rivals Rangers in an impressive 3-0 win this afternoon (Wednesday) at Lennoxtown.

Two quick-fire goals from Daniel Cummings and Ben Quinn in the first half handed the Hoops a well-deserved advantage before the break, with the win sealed by Jude Bonnar early in the second half.

Having lifted the trophy last campaign, the Bhoys began their defence of the trophy by welcoming their Glasgow rivals to Rangers. And from the off it was clear there was going to be one winner, with the Celts dominating much of the early stages.

Bruno Davidson was causing trouble down the right for the visitors, driving forward and having the first shot of the game, which was ultimately blocked.

Throughout the opening 45 minutes, Celtic were able to pin the visitors back as they aimed to try and carve open opportunities in front of goal.

After continuing to work the Rangers backline, the breakthrough came for the young Hoops just before the half-hour mark as Daniel Cummings opened the scoring.

His first effort inside the area was saved, but the forward did well to react quickest to the loose ball, sticking it home into the back of the net at the second time of asking.

Just two minutes later, the Celts found the back of the net once more, this time through Ben Quinn.

Magnus Mackenzie was another player who proved to be a thorn in Rangers’ side all afternoon, and the full-back’s delivery found the Irishman, who smashed with ball home on the volley.

Despite Celtic’s dominance, the away side did have a big opportunity just before the break as Josh Clarke was called into action. However, the Celtic keeper was a match for the close-range effort.

Heading into the second half, it was an even affair between the two sides, but the Bhoys denied Rangers from having many clear-cut chances on goal.

The next goal would prove to be important on the match, and it was the Celts who would pop up to grab it.

Following some nice play down the left hand, Mackenzie found the late run of Jude Bonnar, who calmly side-footed the ball underneath the Rangers shot-stopper.

It was a superb all-round performance from the young Celtic side, who came away with three points and a clean sheet to kick-off their Glasgow Cup campaign.

CELTIC: Clarke, Donovan, Mackenzie, Agbaire, Robertson, Ure, Davidson (Kyle 65), Thomson (McArdle 8), Cummings (Dobbie 65), Bonnar (Turley 77), Quinn.
    Subs: Morrison, Osagie, Bonetig

Looks like a good performance could Mackenzie be worth a go at left back? Not sure if he’s had many games for the b team this year but looks to do what we need a full back to do offensively get high and wide and put decent deliveries into the box.
