Just seen this and wondered bout the price , could we really afford that amount for any player ?

Meanwhile, Iaquinta said no to many requests: particularly strong Celtic (ready to shell out 8 million), but Espanyol, Sunderland, Lille and St.Etienne. Ziegler, in turn, seems determined to reject the three-year, two million per season that has offered Trabzonspor now likely to remain on the sidelines of the project count for an entire season.

Nope. I'd say £5m maximum and even that's pushing it. When was the last time we spent over £4m on a player, just out of interest?

Probably could afford it but that doesn't mean our board would even consider it for a second!(Not that they should risk 8 million on a single player in our situation)

    Nope.

Our wage limit is what ? 30-35k a week, and even then that's probably pushing it a wee bit. An 8 million pound player will be wanting a * of a lot more than that, and probably would want even that wee bit more seeing as we play in a footballing backwater. We simply cannot afford that.

    We could afford it

    but wouldt do it :50:

In terms of revenue ov course its possible, but in this league in these curerent financial times??? we wouldnt be daft enough:50: logical thing to do would be get a couple of players in for that kind of dough:50:

Unless messi or ronaldo were in the last week of there contract and were desperate to come to us a would be all for paying the 8 mill:52:

Don't think we would spend over 5 million these days to be honest.

I don't think we would. I think we should consider it though. I'm sure Kaka was around £8m when AC signed him. If you know you're getting something special and they're young, why not?.....I would certainly like to see a special youngster once in a generation and the money isn't coming directly from my pocket, so i don't care how much is spent.:icon_mrgreen:

Couldn't afford the wages an 8mil player would command.

We'd be daft to spend that much on a single player, if he didn't live up to his pricetag it'd leave our finances in tatters.

Just over 4 mil would be our top limit and 30 grand a week.

We could afford it but we would never actually pay it. Besides, any £8million player will have better options than the SPL. Castlemilk West - Thursday night 5-a-side league for example.

It seems crazy to think in the 90s we spent 4 million on Alan Stubbs, that's probably the equivalent of 15 mill today or buying Gary Cahill. We also spunked 3 million on Tommy Johnson!

Would be madness for a 31-year old player.

Can we afford it? Yes. Would we realistically? No. Would we if a specific set of circumstances arose? Most definitely.
