Robert Florence and Iain Connell write and perform a brand new sketch show for BBC Scotland featuring the residents of a fictional Scottish town named Burnistoun.

Robert will be familiar to BBC audiences as presenter of anarchic video games review show Videogaiden.

Florence and Connell have previously written sitcoms Empty And Legit and created characters for Chewin' The Fat and The Karen Dunbar Show.

For Burnistoun their new character creations include Uncle Willie, the man who insists on having his own funeral before he dies, wannabe girl-band singer Jackie McGlade who can make any tune sexy except football songs, and John and Terry, two pub pals who insist they do not fantasise about each other sexually.

Burnistoun has its own newspaper, its own radio station and its own ice-cream van where sparks and nuggets fly as the boys who own it have a major family argument.

The show's supporting cast includes Leah MacRae (Legit, The Karen Dunbar Show, The Angry Puppy) and comic performer Allan Miller (The Atrocity Machine).

Burnistoun is a Comedy Unit production for BBC Scotland.

    Heres the pilot....

That and the Limmy show are alright but they're exactly what youd expect and aren't as good as Chewin the fat, still Game or Rab C Nesbitt.

Aye Rab C Nesbitt is a bit repetitive, i've been watching it on BBC and they always use the word "dip" they use it far too much that it's annoying. They repeat the same patter all the time with Rab and Jamesy saying the same stuff. Chewin the Fat and Still Game are the best though, I know a guy that's in them and used to get to go to the screening things where they record your laughter for the show.

You're talking about the cream of Scottish comedy though with Chewin, Rab & Still Game. I wouldn't expect anything of that standard these days because there just isn't anyone up to the job outside of those three and chuck in the Karen Dunbar show too which was quality. The one about the boys that work for the city council and the one with the two Decorators are pretty decent, although I can't even think what they're called. But my point was it's just a * time for comedy in Scotland just now.
