Try and find Jaap Stam's "head to head" very interesting read. Because of this book he got sold by Man Utd.

Biogs and Autobiogs.

Brian Clough the Autobiography is a great read.

Full Time: The Secret Life of Tony Cascarino is a really interesting book.

Its Not About the Bike by Lance Armstrong is a very inspirational story. Armstrong easily lays claim to being one of the most gifted/ strongest and brave sportsmen that ever lived.

The Ragmans Son by Kirk Douglas is a great movie biog.

Up Till Now by William Shatner is a wonderful read by a much misunderstood actor who has had an extraordinary life.

I dont really read books by people who are under 40 as I dont think they have much to tell. Armstrong is an exception. To me the most interesting biogs are of people from the past where we dont really know much about them.

Nowadays peoples lives are in the papers everyday and we know what toilet roll they use. Likes of current footballers, models, celebs etc who write these books are basically ripping people off and simply feeding the celebrity lifestyle.

If you like UFC there is a really good book by the MMA fighter Forrest Griffin called Got Fight, which is a really funny and well written tale of his rise to fight in the Octagon.

I love autobiographies & two that really stood out for me were Ike Turner & Ray Charles.. both good reads with loads of * drugs & rock n roll

 

Roy Keane's is one of the best books I have ever read. Paolo Di Canio's is one of the funniest.
Slash (Guns N Roses guitarist) has a really entertaining life story, including dying and coming back to life and being in one of the best bands ever and taking insane amounts of drugs and booze.
Also Neil Strauss' "The Game" is autobiographical, it's about a period of a few years he spent trying to become a pick up artist and is absolutely perfect.

 

Roy Keanes and Di Canios are both good reads. I sent both books to the players and asked if the would sign them, and they did and sent back. Alex Ferguson did the same with his, and David Beckham (I know!! But Im a big fan of him as a player, never mind the baggage he has to put up with. The book is "Meh" but I went through a phase of getting signed books).

Slash's is a good book as well.

Anyone know of any good free sites to read football ones? My library has crap ones available and I don't really like to buy books I'll never look at again.

i know i am going to get shot down for this, but gazza's was quite a good funny read. although he played for the manky mob and done the flute, i honnestly think that was just because he was an idiot rarther than being bigoted!

the reason i read it was someone had left it in the staff room so on my breaks used to read a tad at the time.

interesting read into a very very troubled mans life!

 

Dont shout at me either but l'm reading Willie Johnstone's book just now (an ex hun from the 60's and 70's and a dirty wee * at that, sent off about 20 times)

He tells a good story from the late 60's when him,Willie Henderson and Alex Ferguson were having a drink and talking about the previous game when Ferguson made a comment about the teams tactics before leaving the table for some reason. After he leaves Henderson turns to Johnstone and says "what the * does he know about football". Apparently they still joke about that comment when they meet up with Ferguson nowadays.

Oh and by the way l'm only reading it because l got it for £2 in bargain books.

 

That is funny it would be like me saying what does Steve Jobs know about Computers.
