    Or have experience with them..

Need to complain about my dads internet connection, in the past have had 4MB download out here, but currently with Sky at most we are getting 1Mb and at about 4PM it drops to 0.05Mb.

Currently on a 12 month contract with them, but to me what they are providing isn't even fit for use. At night I can't even load up GMail.

So basically anyone any help on getting them to get this sorted, sitting here trying to download Battlefield 4(stupid move I should of payed the extra 7£ and got it on disk) and it is downloading at 90KB/s, going to take til after the new year.

    So aye, any help appreciated.

Probably sounds like there needs to be the hun replaced, the only other problem I could see is that there may be a problem with your connection. I'd get on the phone and complain like *. What was the speed they have advertised for yous? Such as up to 10Mb or what?

Told us we would get between 5-8Mb.

I would be happy with a steady connection at 3Mbs.

Try replacing the filters at the phone point bud.

i used to work for sky technical.

unplug everything from all phone sockets in the house. just plug the microfilter-adsl cable and router/hub in. in that order. make sure you dont have your phone connected at this time.

test then to see how it is. if it works fine then your phone may be causing the distruption or your set up was previously wrong.

if not then: change the microfilter and try again as these can sometimes be faulty (quite often after a period of time). if it works then obviously that.

its important that your sky tv is not the first thing plugged in your phone line. it should always be the micro filter.

if non of these work or you have a crackle on your phone line call sky to run a line test they will be able to see if there is a fault on your line and where it may be.

Have already changed the filters ect, we had someone from Sky and BT both out to the line a few months back who said there was nothing wrong with it.

Had this Hub since we got sky which was under a year ago. Connection was as bad with Talk Talk before Sky though.

It also has to be Sky doing at as it drops completely at the same time everynight.

This morning at about 4am I had a download speed of 2.7Mbs.
Right now I have a download speed of 1.1Mbs.
In about a hour it will be around 0.09Mbs or less.

    Appreciate the suggestions though.

There's not much you can do about the drop in speed, if there is alot of traffic then the speed will eventually slow down. At peak times the speed is going to be pure *. Do you download much during the day and what not?

    I'm downloading Battlefield 4 currently.

Running at 100KB/s, but the download has been going since about 7PM last night and still isn't at 50%. Mostly download during the night though as I am usually up.

First things first, do a quiet line test:

Once you have your telephone connected to the BT test socket dial 17070. You will reach BT's line test facility.
Choose option 2 from the menu presented - "Quiet Line Test".
If your telephone has the option, put it on mute. You should hear nothing through the handset.
If you do hear any line noise, crackling, buzzing, popping or humming, note the time when you conducted the test.
Repeat the test several hours later to determine if the noise is present - again noting the time. If no noise is present this time repeat the test at different times, noting if and when the noise is present.
Note: Faults of this kind are caused by a number of different factors - including some that may only occur at particular parts of the day (e.g. when it's light or when it's dark) or during different kinds of weather (windy, rain, storms etc.). Recording this additional detail may also help with your telephone service provider's investigations.
Once you have identified the times when noise occurs contact your telephone service to report a fault.
Keep hold of the record of the times tested throughout the duration of the fault, to ensure any work by your telephone service provider looks at any specific times when the problem occurs.

If you don't here any noise on the line let me know in here, there's a few other things you can do to troubleshoot.

Tried the quiet line test there Devlin and got no noise. Will try again when the internet completely drops and see if there is any noise.

Right, next thing is to connect direct to the back of the router, browse to it (IP address will be on the back of the router, think Sky's is 192.168.1.1) and see if you can get the router statistics and see if that's the speed your getting direct from the router. If it is the speed your getting from there, need to phone Sky as it'll be either the wrong profile on your line or possibly a routing problem that they'll need to fix. Possibility the routers fell on it's * as well but you rarely get speed problems when a router is failing, it just cuts off or you get * all :50:

Down speed on the router is 2656, up is 448.

Which would go along with the 0.4Mbs Upload I always have.

Done a speed test right now, it claims I am getting 0.8Mbs.

That's about normal for upload mate unless it's fibre. Give sky a phone, it's a pain in the * but if you used to get quicker than that and it slows to a crawl then there are a few things they can do.

If you enter the house number/post code in here it'll give you a rough idea of what you should be getting:

    Cheers for the help Devlin.

That site says it should be 2Mbs or more.

Will give them a phone again.

Cheers everyone else for the suggestions. :50:

Ah, it'll be your distance from the exchange mate, not much you can do about that.

Worth a try though mate :50:

By any chance mate you don't have the hub in a cabinet or tv stand drawer where it is being covered. This can weaken the signal and therefore slow down your connection.
