Anyone getting that feeling? Negative Slant

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Rendog, Sep 29, 2008.

  1. i've been optimistic against the likes of anderlecht and copenhagen, our defence can't cope against aberdeen and villareal have a great attacking system

Plenty of time to get negative if we go 2-0 down within ten minutes into the game!

  3. Don't see the point in being negative about it.

I'm plumping for the negative thread because all the stats make it difficult to hope that we'll beat them. They are top of the Spanish league, we've not been sparkling and we've never won away.

So if we don't get anyting i won't be too upset and if we do then i'll be delighted.:50:

Aye but there's a big difference between playing one up front as we've done before and playing the way the huns did last year. They called it a 4-1-4-1 but for all intents and purposes it was 4-6 and they relied on the speed of Novo to break or to grab something at a set piece. It was so infuriating to watch even their own fans had long hard debates about it on message boards and forums like this. If we ever resorted to those tactics and style of play there would be a massive revolt from our fans who love our team playing football the way it was meant to be played, on the ground, quickly to feet and with the mindset of scoring goals, not just trying to stop the opponents from playing!

Playing 1 up front isn't in itself negative as most teams who play that way either rely on fast wingers coming up from defence and midfield or one or more attacking midfielders backing up the front man. To be fair I think we'll play that way against Villareal but the question is who would be the front man.

  6. I started this thread yesterday, and i woke up this morning with a much more postive celtic like attitude.

Im now thinking (well actually hoping) it might be a good chance to sneak something. :50:

Sorry to continue the negative feel to the thread but I can't see us getting anything over there and we'd be as well losing 4-0 as 1-0 as far as I'm concerned so long as we try for an equalizer if we go 1 nil down.

I'll also be shouting for Man Utd to beat Alboorg as I see us in the UEFA Cup this season.

if our defence plays like it did on sat, we'll get a thumping. for me, its up to WGS to get his tactics spot on for us to have any chance of sneaking something.

personally, i don't care how we play. the most important thing is a win. i don't care how we do it as long as we do. anything else is a bonus.

you're right about relying on McGeady and who ever is on the other wing (please not Naka. would rather have Maloney or even Caddis) to rush forward to aid the lone striker.

Waking up this morning, i felt really postive, but yesterday was thinking we where gonna be grubbed. Its gonna be a game with little chances and i think we gonna get a 78th minute goal and thats it

Were you at the aberdeen game? What about last season when we beat AC Milan but we weren't good enough to beat Motherwell. Have some faith people!

Aberdeen had 3 chances 4 at the most i wouldn't say that we strugled to beat them, two quick goals stunned as and we should have finished plenty of chances before McDonald scored.

Is anyone else here just praying we don't get humped rotten?

The way our teams defending this season it's a huge worry.

Only 5,200 seconds of * ourselves once it kicks off, * it's rotten being a fan at times.

Still, at least we're at the big boys table, unlike the scum.

True mate, we're at the big boys table but it's not enough getting there then feeding off the scraps. I want us to be there and be a force to be reckoned with but unfortunately our board seem to think otherwise. After such good showings over the last couple of years we should be looked at with fear by teams like Allborg but to me it doesn't seem like that. Villareal are a top class side and could well beat Man U at home. I fancy them to spring a shock this year and wouldn't be surprised if they get to the final at least.

We're still a capable team. Teams dont fancy playing us (although they dont fear us either). We have become a top European side again thanks to MON and WGS. Not one of the best, but certainly we are respected
