Anybody heard the story of this guy? * fascinating, he was 7'10 but unlike almost everybody else he was 'proportional' i.e he didnt have a growth problem, or is a 'Natural Giant'

    http://www.macaskill.com/GeneralTallTales/Angus/angus.html

Cape Breton's Big Boy jogged down the street with a 300-pound barrel of pork under each arm to the admiring whistles of bystanders. To win a bet with some French sailors he lifted an anchor weighing 2700 pounds to his shoulder and walked down the wharf with it. Barnum exhibited the Giant on tours in the United States and Europe. One day Big Angus McAskill threw a Big Sailor right over a large woodpile.

There was a time when a sick man had to be taken 25 miles through a howling snowstorm. The giant swung him up over his back and carried him to the doctor without once setting him down. Fishermen who couldn't pull their heavily laden boat up on the beach called on Angus for help, and as the Giant pulled on the bow the men decided to play a trick and hauled back. The boat was torn in two in the tug-of-war between the Giant and the fishermen.

Angus Mòr MacAskill, frequently referred to as Giant MacAskill or Black Angus (1825 – August 8, 1863), was a Scottish-Canadian Giant, and is the world's largest "true" giant (a man of normal proportions, suffering no growth abnormalities). The 1981 Guinness Book of World Records posits Angus as the tallest natural giant who ever lived, and as a result the strongest man who ever lived, as well as being the man with the largest chest measurements of any non-obese man (80 inches, or 2,000 mm).

His stage partner Tom Thumb would probably be better in the air than Maj.

Ever thought that might just be exaggerated a little? :56:

2700lbs. That's over 2.5 tonnes. The weight of an Audi RS6 Avant with 5 passengers and luggage for a fortnights holiday.
And he lifted it on his shoulder and took a leisurely stroll? Aye right.

And as for tearing a boat in half
So they are trying to say those fishermen combined had the strength to tear a boat in half. A fishing boat. Not a kayak.

Stories in those days (and since the dawn of time really) tended to be folk tales (he probably existed i agree) and as they were passed on from town to town they tended to be exaggerated.
So you can bet it started off as a 250lb anchor. 100lbs of pork, 2.5miles and a small rowing boat.

He might have been 7ft 10 and strong but I severely doubt he lifted a 2700lbs anchor on his shoulder :eek1:

That would have been like him lifting Forster, Cha, Wilson, Izaguirre, Mulgrew, Majstorovic, Hooper, Commons, Ki, Kayal, Stokes, Wanyama and Forrest at once :97:

Well if you think about it a 6ft man, slightly above average height can with training bench press over 200Kg's, which is almost 500 pounds, this guy was almost 2 feet taller, his muscles would have been on a ratio of 4:1, i think its possible he could have lifted weights of over a ton, maybe not quite 2700 pounds but i wouldn't underestimate what he could do.
