Seeing as this discussion has 'captivated' a number of threads recently I felt it deserved it's own space.

Who would you keep if you were forced into it? Both have shown in their time here to be lacklustre and untrustworthy but at the same time both are quite different defenders.

I know that most would prefer to punt both, as would I. However I'm purely looking to see which one you would all prefer if it came down to it.

    Efe, his pace is outstanding.

    Boyata, comfortably.

Ambrose has been costing us goals and games for a couple of years now. Out of his depth against part timers. Diddy.

    I'd keep Boyata as well.

Purely because I feel he is better in the air and tackle. Two important defensive aspects, obviously.

He's also only been here a year so I might be being too quick to judge..I was behind him for a while..mainly up until the Hun game.

I'm not so sure he's better in the air, Efe has cleared a lot of incoming. Plus Efe definitely has a better pass forward.

I think Ambrose has a bit of a '50p heid', mate.

Boyata is the more commanding and accurate for me and that has shown in the few goals he has grabbed.

Just checked and he scored 6 last season. Impressive.

Personally I think Efe is hopeless in the air. Half of his header clearances end up going high rather than far, and his heading in the oppositions box...dreadful. 50p piece head.

Efe, he's proven he can do well in the past. In fact I think he and Toure could do well alongside each other. Boyata on the other hand has shown absolutely nothing to suggest he can be a good defender, we took a punt on him because we assumed because he was at City that he's a good player at least but there's a reason he's played * all in his career.

Our defensive options should be Erik, Kolo, Jozo, Efe, O'Connell and Ajer (to fill in if needs be). Don't give Mulgrew a new contract and sell Boyata to some naive English championship team.

Efe should be gone aswell. He makes too many mistakes. You and wanyama only like him because he seems like a nice guy.

I meant his positioning to clear headers, who cares where they land as long as the danger is cleared.

I obviously knew your answer prior to this but just to pick up on the options..

If O'Connell continues down the same road he will without doubt be 4th choice soon enough. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Rodgers already sees it that way. Leaving Ambrose out of the squad entirely the other night suggests so.

Add in young McCart who looks a great prospect, along with Ajer to fill in, and Ambrose is surplus to requirements, as well as Boyata.

Simunovic is one we all don't know too much about. We could well end up looking for another centre half come January. Some would argue we might even need another right now, St Juste for example. Toure won't be long term, afterall and I highly doubt he will play 40 or 50 games a season.

I agree O'Connell looks like he could be a player as well as McCart. I would get rid of both Efe and Boyata but I think Efe is the more accomplished player.

McIntyre has done well with the youth, they can clear a ball and they are comfortable moving it forward.

Aye but the problem is plenty of the time the danger isn't cleared. He's a total diddy who can't be trusted against part timers.

I'll rejoice the day he's sold.

Ambrose is finished here after his latest showings. Boyata has not even had a chance yet to impress Rodgers yet. So on that basis "talk to me" Efe Ambrose should be first out the door.

ffs ambrose..... man, if he could cut out them cheap goals he gifts to the opposition i'd give him a contract for life

boyata average player more consistent defender that doesn't gift anywhere near the same amount of goals as ambrose

think boyata would have to be the choice to keep..... because for as long as we have had efe he hasn't shrugged off the poor defending errors infact your waiting for the mistake every game he plays unfortunately.

Thing is i think we are better going forward with efe in the team i guess he takes chances and maybe that's why he gets beat so often at the back

Boyata's the better player and has proven a solid defender. He had his moments of poor play, and IMO is not up to the quality we need.

    Ambrose has pace... Thats it.

So thats my take on it lol.

boyata shouldnt even be classed in the same bracket yet as ambrose.

boyata was reliable last year apart from the old firm which then turned out to be an injury anyway.boyata banged a few in last year aswell maybe 4 or 5 goals.

boyata has just had his first full season in football under his belt and he done well but nothing special in my eyes.im hoping he can improve this year, also having brendan rodgers as manager might work wonders for him this year.

i dont even no why this is bein debated.
