Agent claims Thompson is unwanted

Alan Thompson's agent claims the Celtic midfielder was sent home from the club's American tour as he is "surplus to requirements".
The Hoops insist the player returned due to a thigh injury but Tony McGill, Thompson's representative, claims the reason is because Thompson is not needed.

McGill told the Daily Record: "Alan Thompson wasn't injured when he left the team's hotel in America so, unless he injured himself carrying his luggage on to the plane, that situation is still the same. The reason he has been sent home is that he is surplus to requirements."

I don't disagree with the fact that Thommo should be gone but there seems to be more to this than we know. Could we not have saved his air fare by not taking him in the first place? It leaves us looking like a club with financial problems and I suppose we can be held to the contract if Thommo wishes. It's a peculiar situation that needs clarification.

there,s a correct way of doing things. once again celtic do it the wrong way.

 

some of your comments towards one of the greatest ever celtic servants here are absolutely shocking and disgraceful.

most of the players in the current celtic squad could not lace thommo's boots in his prime.

thommo signed a contract with the club and was willing to honour that, so give him a lot more respect.

look at how petrov has dealt with the club, and is still in america ffs.

 

hopefully he leaves hes on £25-30k so he is so hopefully he leaves hasnt been the same since he played for england

 

regi, i can understand a lot of celtic fans wanting him to leave for those reasons, but there is no need for the club to treat him this way.

we don't know, but look at all the high earners that have left the club, ie hartson and sutton.

we are going way way back to the tin biscut mentality, these examples show this. christ, i still can't believe sutton has left, and his number 9 shirt has been taken by kenny miller.

 

Thommo was a good servant to the club up to Seville, since then he has done nothing but take a fat wage out the club for zero return on the park.
Lost all sympathy for him after his cupped ear gesture to the fans, if he had any ambition left as a player he would have moved on last season after Strachan had made it clear he wasn't going to figure in his plans instead of seeing out his lucrative contract.
He shot himself in the foot at Ibrox last season, he had been poor the last 2 seasons before under MON, but Ibrox was conformation that he was past doing anything of use at Celtic.
Thommo has short changed Celtic and the fans for the last 3 years, time to move on.

 

just seems to me that we are having nothing but aggro from players at the moment and you have to ask yourself why?.I believe that Strachan's man management is the problem here and we'll have nothing but problems until he learns to treat players with respect.Look at the difference he has made to the changing room Petrov wants out,Agathe was frozen out,both hartson and sutton were pushed out.Camara finally starts playing good football (against rangers he was different grade) then gets dropped or the while he keeps his lovechild in the side,even to the detrament of young wilson who in my opinon could become a celtic great if played in his natural position.Is this the reason we havn't signed a left back? because strachan wants to keep telfer in the side and with a left back signed there would be calls for telfer to be replaced with wilson

If you'd asked me 3 months ago, I'd say get rid of Thommo, but I am starting to worry that they're offloading the old players with no intention of replacing them. And I think somebody (even if it is Thommo) is better than nobody.

I'm also worrying that Celtic are being made to look bad. I know that there are papers just waiting to jump on that bandwagon, but Celtic know that too - so why give the papers ammunition????

we all know thommo hasn,t been the same player the last year and a half , two years, but dont forget his first 3 years the guy was outstanding show him respect. we all forget what these players did for us ,,thommo.hartson ,sutton and agathe. celtic just want to get rid any way they can..
