    Defender Adam Virgo has returned to Brighton on a free transfer from Celtic.

    Brighton-born Virgo, who joined the Hoops three years ago in a £1.5 million deal, has signed a two-year contract with the Seagulls.

    Virgo was handed his debut by Micky Adams in 2001 and went on to enjoy a four-year stint at the Withdean Stadium.

    He has since linked up with Adams again at Coventry and Colchester - where Adams was assistant manager - on loan but has now made a permanent return to the South Coast.

    Virgo told the club's official website: "It feels fantastic to be coming home and now I can't wait to get started.

    "When I knew the club and Micky were interested it was a very easy decision to make.

    "There were other offers on the table, but at this stage of my career I need to be playing regular football and I feel I can achieve that with my hometown club.

    "I also feel the Albion are a Championship club in the waiting."

    i would think that Virgo was earning inbetween £7.5k-£15k, so good to get him off the wage bill as he is not the quality Celtic demand. cutting our losses will be the theme of this window with Gravesen etc leaving.

    So far I know he's actully the only player who have been MOTM every time he have started in the defence (x2 Motherwell, and one against Dundee United). But agree he were * as striker, and the Dunfermline Athletic match cost him a lot.

    Fair he's gone for good, he didn't have any future in the club. But don't be unfair to him.

    i think your right. Gravesen will dig his boots in the ground and demand a lump of his wages for the coming season to * off in this window.

    however, i doubt we had to pay off Virgo. he would probably be gratefull for us to allow him to leave on a free, thus boosting the chance of getting a new club. something Gravesen will struggle to do, even on a free, due to his poor performances since his move to Real Madrid and his unjustifyable demand for wages.
