Many SPL watchers believed that Hearts promising start to the season would only last a matter of time, but the Edinburgh side are still top of the league after encountering the second of the Old Firm teams on Saturday.

Rangers initially vowed to end Hearts' run, but were firmly put in their place by a 1-0 defeat. Celtic then made similar predictions only to find that there is more to the Jambos than huff and puff.

Indeed, it was the visitors who threatened early on when Paul Hartley fired a shot in on goal from 25 yards out, only for Hoops' 'keeper Artur Boruc to tip the effort over the bar.

However, it was the hosts who took the lead on 13 minutes. George Burley's men failed to clear their lines and Craig Beattie - playing up front alongside Chris Sutton - picked up a loose ball at the edge of the box and drove a defected effort into the back of the net.

A Bobo Balde header crashed off the post moments later, but it was the visitors who scored the next goal and it came within minutes.

A long through ball from Edgaras Jankauskas to Rudi Skacel saw the midfielder battle - and beat - both Paul Telfer and Boruc to fire home the equaliser from 12 yards out.

Jankauskas, Paul Telfer and Shaun Maloney all might have done better with respective chances, but the Old Firm duo of Celtic and Rangers must know be well aware that there is a third club in the running for the SPL title this season, and they currently continue to set the pace.
