Why not have a Super-League bhoys the top teams in Europe but will they(UEFA)let some scottish clubs in,If they don't they should come over and watch a few games coz i think our standard off football has got a lot better:humpani: True if we were to join the Premiership(can't see it happening for 3/4-years tops) thats were we could make a lot of Money from all the T.V companys but i don't think that us+Rangers or Hibs or Hearts will join anything for a few years+we Need to do well in Europe to be Reconised,Look at Celtic now with all the TV,Polish tv China+Japan all of them have payed money to have the games beamed back to there countrys,Hope we do join a Europeane League in a few years!

Setanta sell the TV rightsfor the SPL to other countries not Celtic. Celtic show their games on Channel67 on their website which I believe is mainly subscribed to by ex-pats not people from Poland, China,Japan etc following their fellow countrymen. Therefore it is no more lucrative now than it was prior to the arrival of Naka,Du Wei, Magic etc

Long term it would be benificial to us, but im not sure if Celtic would want to drop into a lower league and make their way up, but then again, the FA aren't going to make space for 2 more teams to enter. So the problem regarding the Premiership and Old Firm will be ongoing for quite some time.

My opinion is that we will, in the future be playing in a league other than the SPL. I would rather the English Premiership, imagine playing Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal week in week out, sure would beat going to Falkirk. Ok if we joined the Championship we would miss out on Europe, but for how long??? Considering the finances that would be generated we wouldn't be there long and I would expect promotion and European football within 5 years.
Take it from someone who works in TV, there are PPL working day and night to push this, even Celtic Football Club themselves, read the extract below:

Ref: Page 27 of the Prospectus offered with the new share issue.

As a result of the limited size of the Scottish market and television audience, the Company’s revenue from broadcasting fees charged by the SPL is substantially less than clubs of smaller size which operate in the FA
Premier League. In the longer term, the Directors believe that the establishment of a new competitive football environment, whether in a British or European context, in which Celtic could participate, could lead to
    significantly higher broadcast revenues.

They were complaining a couple of weeks ago that they were NOT getting the full benefit of the Asian TV market as Setanta held the rights. The other SPL clubs were benefitting financially due to the Japanese and Chinese TV stations buying the product from Setanta. The complaint being, they were buying the product due to the interest created by Celtic players (Naka, Du Wei) and the Celtic had to share the pot.
What you say with regard to merchanising is correct (hats, scarves, DVD's etc..) but is a side issue.
I'm sure some informed members will be able to confirm this.

    Agreed

maybe the Premiership is going the way of the SPL
    with a 2 horse race

Think maybe they want us to booost their own league

Isn't it ironic that after the SPL being branded "boring" and "a two horse race", the Premiership is now a one horse race.

Even more so now it's a four horse race up here.

Spot on mate :50: maybe now people will realise this and our league will get some decent money from tv rights and uefa noticing that our league is becoming more competitive so therefore making more uefa cup places available or even champs league places

I certainly hope so as the current money Celtic get through TV revenue is embarrassing.

As for European places, unfortunately our country's coefficents will have taken a devastating blow this season. This will bite in a few years.

Hibs 5-1 defeat was so undeserved, MaPay beating Dundee Utd an embarrassment and as for Celtic......

yeah Hibs were unlucky at easter road not to go in to the away leg at least 2-0 up but never and everything Dnipro hit went in shame really.Dundee Utd if i remember correctly were knocked out cos their home game and had a decent away result so really a missed oppertunity.Celtic well at least we had a good home performance.

Yeh Dundee Utd let the tie 2-0 at Tannadice following a goal-less draw away. Ironically a guy called Adrianio scored a late double to shock a big home crowd that night.

Artmedia away just came too early in the season.
