With the transfer window approaching everyone seems especially obsessed with a left back and quite rightly so which has been going on for a while now. However i must express my opinion that i believe we also desperatley require a long term right back as hinkel, doumbe or wilson are not the answer for european respectability. This and the the left back position continually leads to the centre backs especially mcmanus of late being left vunerable when in fact he and caldwell are actually a very able duo. In addition Despite what many of you may think about the number of midfielders we have...........which is many.......... on our books i am very keen to see what we sign in the creative dynamic midfielder front as I firmly believe crosas or brown shouldl go on to make that position there own over the rest of seaon which leaves me to think who is our other central midfielder or more if we choose to play 5 in midfield ? We need midfield players that can keep the ball as if it were there day job............which it is............... and damage european teams...........which we are not doing, over the last few years yes we are getting the odd result but we are playing and scoring fortunate goals if any especially away from home in the cl ? Maloney, mcgeady ? they are not central and the likes of hartley, nakamura, robson, donati, mizuno, mccourt etc never will be good enouph to do this......

We deserve and must get quality for our money............This solely boils down to excellent scouting, coaching, management, unearthing talent before others and ambition as a club representing their more than loyal fans...................all this talk of the premiership money and credit crunch is a far too convenient for everyone at the club as an excuse. The fans of this club are far better than fans of your Sunderlands and tottenhams................plus we out number them 1,000,000 x1 worldwide probably......................so someone within the board wake up, realise the potential and start talking like your a winner......i.e a celtic supporter.............instead of the constant pesimistic * we all here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. If we all be honest we are doing just enouph to stay ahead of the huns for the moment........really since advocaat left actually they have been very poor which has been making us look better than we are.

I will be slated but who cares...............an honest opinion from an honest tim.

Wulliebad is right. If we do go out and buy, buy, buy, we end up in the situation Rangers find themselves in now. In the not too distant future, a lot of Britain's biggest clubs, i.e Chelsea, Man U, Rangers, will be crippled by their debts, and it will show both on and off the field. If we continue the way we are at the moment, with minimalistic spending and keeping finances right, we will be one of the biggest clubs in Europe when the current titans fall. Therefore, I submit to you, spending is bad and not spending is not bad.

I have to agree with Wullie & Bhoyyo here...

Spending for the sake of it would be diasaterous for Celtic. We've found our level - for the time being. I'd rather see Celtic on a sound financial footing than see us over stretch and find ouselves, like others do, in a more precarious position.

CB you didn't mention brining through youth players, surely this is what we should be concentrating a lot of our efforts on. think of the money we'd save if we got a steady flow from our academies. Do we just close these down and buy the finished article?

Don't get me wrong, the LB position has been a concern for many over the last couple of seasons, but throwing money about is not the answer.

nobodies asking for millions to be spent putting us in a precarious postion financially but there must be a left back out there who is better than what we have who wouldn't break the bank.

as for the original post i think hinkel has made the right back spot his own in recent months and brown and crosas have the potential to be a great central midfield pairing so as it stands i don't see the point in spending money on either of those postions in january

when did I ever say........spend spend spend ??? Im talkin plans to utilise the size of club we are a lot better......plus better communication towards the fans as we do not ever know when we are planning a signing or not, when a player is surplace within the squad. My original post wasnt just as simple a suggesting a spending spree...........it was a bit more intricate than that, however what it did say was a lb, rb, ceative dynamic midfielder...............required..............which was missed.

caddis is or should be a right midfielder. hes fast, can run at people, pass/cross the ball but his positional sense lets him down defensively and he isn't good enough in the tackle or in the air to play right back.
have said it before and will say it again hinkel is a great right back and i really don't know what the guy has to do to please some folk
