was willing to give the big man a chance, but after today i dont think hes cut out for it. think the captain should be hartley,he showed in his interview he realy cares about the club.

Think it was under Wim that Tommy played very little as club Captain

You can never please everybody: fact. However, I'm really surprised by the disharmony amongst fans as reflected by threads such as this.
Remember that McManus was chosen by Strachan to be captain and from what I see: he's doing alright. The guy wouldn't deserve to play for Celtic at all, if he had turned the honour down!

Mcmanus is by far the poorest captain in living memory.the only reason he keeps his place is that he is strachans yes man.his lack of ability and leadership qualities are frightening and no doubt when the next manager comes in he is the first causualty

Totally agree but a few months ago it was Caldwell who was Srachans yes man . Caldwell turned it around cant see Mick doing any better than what he does now . So in my opinion he is the week link in central defence

its only human nature to complain when things go wrong. to be fair i don't think mick should be captain at the present time. he needs to concentrate on his own game, maybe it's too much for him. in my opinion a celtic captain, especially a centre half captain should be a stand out ( billy mcneill).
wgs should give the armband to hartley but only after mick gets injured as stripping him of the armband would be very demoralising.

Good point mate but not for saying he is better but for pointing out the wee * bag as a example,Imo he spends to much time talking and sorting out other players that his own game is *..the rangers fans are not happy with the way he is playing. If rangers are playing like they are with their game raised then its easy street for celtic.
Now for someone to compair john terry and macmanus on here is a joke, macmanus few million maybe.... john terry 30 million easly. If you are going to compair him and judge him with other captains then it needs to be against other spl captains of aprox same value. You wouldnt compair larsson to killen, one is world class the other spl class. You might compair for wishfull thinking but to say he does this and ours dont is totaly unfair, you do get what you pay for in life.
I see in macmanus a guy who has little skill but all heart and balls and for me thats what we need in a captain, I dont want some prat prancing around the pitch chatting to players i want him playing the game and sorting the team out at set plays and in the locker room at half time. Macmanus has shown time and time again he would break a leg or crack a scull for celtic, you cant say that about all the team!.Caldwell is playing great at the minute but if you took the captain band off macmanus and gave it to caldwell i think you would see caldwell play worse and macmanus improve just because of the shift of pressure.
How much * would macmanus get if we lost a goal at a free kick/corner while he was chatting to team mates getting them ready or giving them a pep talk cause they was playing badly, you only have a few seconds in the box to shout a few words of encouragement before the ball comes in,and he is not the only captain/player in the game to do that.
In short guys,if you want a better captain then you have to go out and spend better money.Do you really want the season tickets to double or more in price to buy better players....... I know i dont.

McManus knows that the only reason he does not get dropped from the starting 11 is cos he is captain....he will never step down as captain...so Strachan shud give him till the end of this season then either sell him or at least strip him of the captain's armband!!

12 SPL wins in a row, 7 points clear and there is a debate on whether Stephen is a good enough captain. Unbelievable!

These threads annoy the life out of me.

How is he the worst captain in recent memory? How do you possibly make that assumption. To me the worst captain would be someone who had no success. He has. He puts his heart and soul into every game with Celtic. He and Caldwell have built a solid partnership at the back and are by far the best pairing. He does organise. If you actually take a look you would see this. Though too many on here only see what the tv cameras show you.

Also last season he came out and gave the team the kick up the * that it required. He was criticising the team and rightly so for not scoring goals and playing well. It worked. We won the league.

I know that you all remember when Caldwell was a dud. It was only a few months ago after the Barca game that Caldwell was to get strung up. Who was it that held the defence together then? Mick. Caldwell was playing like a 12 year old schoolgirl at times, but we still had the best defensive record in the SPL.

Granted this year Caldwell has played outstanding. But that wasnt really hard compared to what he was like before. Mick has remained consistently good. He does the simple thing most of the time. If the ball needs punted out, he punts it out. Its basic footballing sense.

When has Mick made a mistake? When has he cost us a goal? Never. You cant count deflections against Aalborg as costing a goal. He was there to make the block.

Loovens is nowhere near good enough. He may in time. But there is no point taking out a better player, Mick, to put in a worse player hoping that he will improve. Loovens get lost far too often. Aalborg didnt do much the other night but he got lost a few times with balls over the top. He looks at the player and not the ball. He has been caught in every game that I have seen him play so far.
