How much do you tip? What's the going rate these days? I suspect I might be a miserable old *, please clarify. This is what I normally tip.

    Taxi Drivers - £1-2

    Gophers - £1

    Waiter/ess - 20%

    Well?

I think thats about right mate. Unless they really do go out there way for you which most of these people dont.

I usually look at the name on the taxi drivers badge to dictate his tip. . . Sad I know, but thats what I do !!

I always tip especially taxi men, id cringe if i paid a taxi man without giving him a tip, just wouldnt feel right. It sounds stupid but thats the world were living in now, tips are expected not earned.

No offence to davie, but * em, if they expect a tip they'll include it in their charge, which is probably exactly what they do anyway.

We're not American, we shouldn't feel the need to tip all the time. My mam works in the health service and she doesn't get tips.

yeh i do agree there only doing their job like the rest of us, its odd the way were expected to tip a taximan for the service but not say a fireman or a sales assistant in a retail shop , there both getting paid anyway.

i still tip would just feel scabby if i didnt.

Yesterday I tipped the trash men $20. They'd been dropping hints to the guys doing our renovation about 'coffee money', as we've been putting out extra bags of construction debris.

Yeah, to be fair if you're actually doing something that increases their regular work load it's understandable to tip - it's just stuff like basic cab fares that's silly. If the cabbie is dead sound and has to wait for me to get changed or something or he's great craic then I'll tip him, but I never feel obliged.
