I really like Darren O'Dea. I don't ever remember watching him play and thinking that he let the team down. He's very unlucky in that he is a left sided centre half and so is Stephen McManus. When the two of them have been paired together it just hasn't quite worked. So that puts O'Dea in direct competition with Mick for a place in the team. Given that Mick is club captain there is only going to be one winner in that contest. Probably the best solution is to send O'Dea out on loan somewhere and let him gain first team experience. Who knows, if he progresses well enough maybe he might be capable of giving Mick a real run for his money when he comes back? I definitely think the lad has some potential. HAIL HAIL

PS. When we go to Castle Greyskull in December I'd definitely use O'Dea at left back that day. We'll have to defend properly that day and it's been well proven that neither Naylor or Wilson defend all that well when we're under pressure.

Darren proved himself against AC Milan in injury crises and gets repaid by getting played out of position at LB.

I feel sorry for the guy and think he has great potential, as someone previosly said, I would like to see him go out on a Marc Crosas style deal.

One of the most overrated by the fans players I have ever known at Celtic. Lots of flaws in his game - no pace, easily beat on right side, not that good in the air. He is just not that good at the moment. I think I agree with the manager that he is the 5th best CB at the club after Gary, Mick, Loovens and JFK. He could still come good but he has absolutely no chance unless he goes on loan at a good level and does brilliant. How about taking back JFK after Xmas and lending out OD to Norwich.

Any yes I agree with the poster above - he does have an annoyingly cocky vibe.

I'd go with that, absolutely, Given is a fine example of a late developer. I think we're holding him back, would be good to let him go somewhere - with that deal - like Wigan or West Brom where he'd get a start most weeks.

I like O'Dea, and think he should have had a run of games by now. Additionally, the ideal way to stall the career of a young player and dig their confidence into the floor is to play them out of position, especially in an area that has become a real problem for us.
