New manager

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by SkyeCelt, Oct 26, 2025.

  1. The board removed a lot more value from the squad than they ever gave Rodgers

  2. Mate we were playing Kairat, not Roma. 311th UEFA ranking.
That's like playing Pollok FC in European terms

  3. Aye...made more than brought in. Board 100% * up that window so bad rhen tried to release stories of playing his card when he wasnt backed at all.

Still though...Rodgers has a 2 year shelf life it seems and board should see their monumental * up and do what's rifgt.
But the board are reactive...and will go 90% in on a new era then * them over.

  4. Definitely in the category of coach rather than manager.

After having such strict set ups under Ange & Rodgers you can see the current squad is enjoying having the shackles off. We 100% need a pragmatic manager who will change things up instead of only having a Plan A.

Unfortunately your most likely right there. Plus on top he as well as any top quality level coach will know all about Celtic's owner and directors who are happy to sabotage their own team and stab their own manager in the back publicly with hit pieces in the media and on the clubs web site.

  5. My second question wasn't whether we had to live within our means or whether we should run like Oldco Rangers, which would be an dumb question to ask. My question was whether we should live within our means or sit with £50 million in the bank. Before you answer that, remember that the board itself has admitted that it's not ideal to have so much cash in the bank.

As for the first point, you don't like my analogy, so let me walk you through it without resorting to analogies. Let's start with the good windows (all 2 of them). If you sell MOR for more than £20 million and buy Engels for £11 million, this is good business and I don't have an issue with it and neither did Rodgers at the time; but it's perverse to chalk that up as £11 million spent on Rodgers when a better player left and a lesser player (albeit one with potential and a better age profile) arrived. Even in a good window, it's not an honest representation of how much Rodgers had to spend, because it only represents 1 side of the ledger.

Now look at an example from a bad window. We sold Nicholas Kühn, losing some serious quality and bringing in some serious money. We needed to go out and get the RW equivalent of Arne Engels, so what did we do? Well, we needed a quality RW, but instead bought no one for RW and bought 2 mediocre LW to compete with Daizen Maeda. The 2 mediocre LWs together cost about as much as one quality RW would have cost and under your system we have to tot that spending up as "money spent on Rodgers", which is just a mental way of assessing his backing.

  6. Something that is continually glossed over to suit a narrative.

They also negotiated the cash and waited too long to go for those deals.

  7. I agree.

I'd rather keep MON till end of the season than hire q candidate like Nancy, mid season, with such a rogue style of play.

  8. McKenna without the Jamestown analytics has been fairly poor to average

Knutsen of the 3 alleged frontrunners would be my pick but still have reservations of him just being a cog a well oiled machine at Bodo but it would also give hope that we may be looking at some sort of restructure as well

Nancy gives me the fear. Ronny Deila won the MLS a couple of years back and is a similar age and has done considerably more in management probably a * comparison to make but I don't think you can put a lot of weight in the MLS

  9. @Random Review also the two mediocre wingers (tad harsh on Tounekti), weren't even brought in on time for Kairat..

Yes, Rodgers should have got us through it.. but the Board actually hindered him, instead of helping us get through it...

  10. How did Big Mick manage to say in one sentence what took me 3 paragraphs. :eek1:

  11. Tounekti absolutely is mediocre right now IMO, although I admit he has potential. There was one pass he made in the last game that was something else btw! Do you know the one I mean?If he can be coached into doing more of that kind of thing, I wouldn't class him as mediocre.

  12. He's made a solid start.. looks a threat every time he's on the ball.. end product needs work but I'm delighted with his start.. takes two or three to try and cover him which frees up other players.

  13. Yeah, OK, "mediocre" was harsh. Let's say one mediocre LW and 1 extremely rough and unpolished LW who needs to work on his decision making. Happy now?! :giggle1:

  14. I think we are better going managerless for the foreseebale future.

The squad isn't that strong the now, theres a lack of creativity and attacking quality, so any managers won't really be able to implement any type of football as it just won't function that well.

Currently just playing random football like we are, with long balls, running about and energy is fine, keeping it simple and basic and just trying to win games.

  15. Exactly. The players look far happier this way, as well. Until we get rid of the board, no philosophies can be truly implemented. And we have a winnable league to fight for.

  16. Too many people fell for the con job or hoax - whatever term makes those who didn’t see it feel a bit better.

The team that started against Kairat was shocking. The front line just awful. Maeda’s heart wasn’t even in it. Why did they not get the value and players in early so we could COMPETE through the CL qualifiers? The Sleepy Board have done that at least 5 or 6 or 7 times since the 2010s. That’s not Rodgers fault. It’s happened across numerous managers.

Klopp/Guardiola/Pressley/Lennon/Nancy/Postecoglou wouldn’t get a tune out of that forward line. They wouldn’t be happy. The Rodgers OUT folk presumably are content with a Nancy/Lennon/McKenna type being able to get a tune out of Yang/Forrest/Chucked it Maeda. Fair play for the optimism.

Folk miss the bigger picture too often and then go all close-minded when folk query it.

We’ll be downgrading by the looks of it unless we can get Marco Rose or someone of that ilk comes out of the wordwork.

Do you know what would’ve been the least risky move? Backing Rodgers in the month of July.

This Board are so risk averse that they’ve counterintuitively created an inherently risky situation now.

There’s some merit in keeping MON and Maloney at least until the new manager bounce dissipates to ensure we get this completely right & don’t go all trigger happy with scraps of an unserious league in the MLS or catch Lennon in the shower again.

  17. Whilst I agree with most of what you say.. both things can be absolutely true..

The Board failed Rodgers and us.
Rodgers failed us, by being unable/unwilling to get us up for the game..

  19. I think it became impossible for Rodgers to work under the Board, it affected his decision making, team selection, and it clearly dampened his enthusiasm for the job.

Manager and Board always need to work in tandem, it's imperative at a football club.
