    * genuinely does not matter who our manager is. Until the club is run properly, by the right people, we'll never be on the right track

    It does matter though.

We were run the same way going from Deila to Rodgers. No difference there? Or Lennon to Ange?

Don't get me wrong, the structure needs to change for sustained success, but a good manager can bring us great times despite how the club is run

Every one of those managers were badly hamstrung by the board and the clubs inadequacy at numerous points of their tenures.

I'm not sure how many more of these great times i can handle tbh.

I'd say the last manager to REALLY bring great times to the club, in the proper sense, is the 73 yr old guy in the dugout just now. 22 years ago.

Knutsen does favour the 4-3-3 system and it's been very successful for Bodo/Glimt under his guidance. There is one major difference from Rodger's inflexible use of the 4-3-3 system, and that is, Knutsen does adapt it to suit, when the situation demands, like if the opposition build with two deeper pivots, then Knutsen’s original 4-3-3 shape defends in a 4-1-4-1. Plus, I think if Knutsen does get the gig, he would look to bring in the right kind of midfielders in particular, that would make the 4-3-3 system potent again for us. Knutsen’s tactics have been hugely successful domestically and have also achieved great results in the Europa, so he is tried and tested, we could do a lot worse. And most posters on here had Knutsen high on their wanted list, including me, and some have wanted him to be our manager for years. If we do get Knutsen, I think it would be a major coup for Celtic, with a very successful and experienced manager in charge.

    I agree they were hamstrung.

However, you don't think a historic quadruple treble under Rodgers/Lennon or Ange tenure was great times?

    That's a sad outlook.

He's 100% worth taking the risk on though. Especially when you look at the other options.

What he's done with them, regardless of the specific conditions, has been incredible. Its the fact he's transferred it to Europe and they've been good at that level for coming up 5 years now. Basically with an entire team of homegrown Norwegians...its wild.

On paper he is everything we need right now.

I guess we've just got different opinions of what Celtic greatness looks like.

I think it'll be one of Knutsen or Nancy.

What’s your opinion of what it looks like? An Invincible treble to start of 4 seasons of trebles doesn’t cut it, what actually does?

Well it seems your version is European Finals. How many seasons in Celtics history have been "greatness"? 3?

If a quadruple treble doesn't do it for you, you're following the wrong sport

Wouldn’t trade the memory to change it but one of those seasons, Rangers won a treble.

Special place in my heart that season but ultimately, unsuccessful, heart breakingly so and no shame to it but it’s a weird bar for us to judge our success.

I'm not so sure. I can't get over our net spend under Rodgers second time round. In his second stint, he must be the least backed manager in our history. Why did we give him so much less backing than someone like Ronny? It almost seems like we back lesser managers more. Ange doesn't fit that pattern, but I think I can explain him as well.

What if it's as simple as this: the board have a certain level of success mediocrity they target and multiple ways of getting there. If you invest a bit more in the management, you can invest a bit less in the playing staff.

I said above that Ange doesn't fit the pattern, as he was clearly a very good manager and yet he was backed; but he kind of does fit it when you remember that he wasn't on a top manager's wages and was an unknown quantity when we signed him. The board were probably as surprised as we were by how good he was.

Some examples of what cuts it for me:

1967 : winning the European Cup

1970: reaching the European cup final.

2000/2001 domestic treble against the strongest Rangers team ive seen in my life.

2003:despite not winning a single competition we embark upon a legendary run to the uefa cup final and are provided with moments and memories that will last a lifetime. A team that put celtic back on the map and showed that with the right squad and manager and some belief in ourselves , we could achieve things in Europe.

April 2008, last chance saloon, against soon to be europa league finalists Rangers, needing a win at home to keep the title hopes alive. We win then embark upon an incredible comeback to seal the league title which was dedicated to the late Tommy Burns.

87/88 centenary season. Domestic double up against against a Rangers team loaded with top international players.

85/86 season, league win against all odds.

As much as the quadruple treble on paper is
a remarkable achievement, if we're really honest about it, it probably says more about what was around us at the time, competition wise.

Edit - I'd probably put the invincible treble season in. To go the full season unbeaten was an amazing achievement.

Ange wasn't lavishly backed because the players he targeted were all cheap - that was also the reason he was picked over Howe. Rodgers loves players from England, and even if not from there, he'll demand a higher caliber of player that costs far more than Ange's signings.

Would make sense. Easier to control, less autonomy required than Knutsen. Knutsen would wantb(rightly) want a lot of things to to change. Can't see Nancy doing that. Be happy to work with what he's told and not rick the boat as this is his big shot.

    Prefer Knutsen myself.

I can seriously smell another Howe situation with Knutsen.

All set to announce and then a spanner in the works.

At least the new manager wont be saddled with Kennedy.

I didn't say he was lavishly backed, mate; I said he was backed a lot more than Rodgers in the sense of not having to deal with a 7-figure negative net spend every single window.
