If you watch it back then look at both his feet - his left leg has planted far in front of Butland and it looks like he may have been anticipating a spill and then tries to draw his foot back and that means his right foot ends up near his left to stay upright.

he apologises almost instantly ( before he is even standing ) and looks 100% unintentional.

Yes the ref has a decision to make but lets stop with the KICK, rakes his studs down his face, could have lost an eye etc
looks like he was drawing his extended right leg back and brushed Butland ever so lightly as he did so

Yellow Card - poor decision making from Trusty not much more

Butland should be thankful it wasn't a kick to the head from Big Bad John Harston i

    Don’t be silly…

It’s attempted murder he’s looking at.

Actually thought he had a decent game tonight despite getting horsed. Was a one man band at times but looked good again.

Auston Trusty has given his own view on the incident with Jack Butland last weekend, as the fallout from Celtic's 3-1 defeat of Rangers continues.

With Celtic leading 1-0 at Hampden, Trusty initiated contact with Butland's head via a late challenge, which prompted Nick Walsh to brandish a yellow card in the American's direction.

Despite calls from their opponents, both during and after the Premier Sports Cup semi-final, Trusty remained on the field, winning Player of the Match for his on-field efforts in the process.

During Celtic's pre-match press conference ahead of their game against Kilmarnock, Trusty was asked about the incident. "I was just trying to get the ball," he said. "The ref called for a yellow, then VAR checked it and it was a yellow. Then we just got on with it. I haven't really thought too much about it.

"I tapped him. I didn't boot him in the head. I didn't actually mean, you could see my demeanour and my reaction to tapping him on the head. No, I didn't think it was anything. I just obviously apologised.

No one means to boot somebody in the head or kick somebody in the head. I obviously tapped him on the head and that's all it was. I didn't really think anything much of it. I was apologetic and you see my hand to him saying I'm sorry.

"No matter rivalry or whatever it is, that's not the kind of human I am."

Trusty continued, "I think no matter whatever side has a positive result, the other side's going to say whatever and it's just how football works in this country and from this rivalry.

"I don't think you can really escape that."
