    Bad move.

A welshman on the verge of taking his country to a world cup is massive for him though.

    Totally get it.

He chose Cardiff over us too in 2010. That would be a couple of times he's told us no thanks in different capacities.

Would be surprised if we went back for him in any capacity if he was offered and turned it down.

    https://www.voetbalnieuws.be/news/867962/club-brugge-opgelet-hayen-reageert-op-flirt-met-celtic

If it were on his bucket list, Nicky Hayencould tick off another European powerhouse on Wednesday, when Club Brugge takes on FC Barcelona at home. Arsenal will also be playing at Jan Breydel in just over a month. The question, however, is whether Hayen himself will even be there

Finally, the Blauw-Zwart coach is on Celtic's radar, as they search for a suitable replacement for Brendan Rodgers. What's more, after supposed top candidates like Ange Postecoglou and Mark van Bommel dropped out, Hayen is reportedly currently quite high on the Scottish champions' wish list .

    Club versus Celtic
Reason enough for VTM News to grill the coach again about his immediate future plans. Naturally, Hayen is now solely focused on his next assignment, although he didn't completely avoid the question of whether this will be his last match as head coach of the Champions League cup winners.

I haven't thought about that for a second. I have someone who represents my interests and who also knows exactly when to inform me. That's not an issue yet," it appears, though the interest hasn't yet materialized. Although Hayen doesn't deny that something is already happening behind the scenes.

    Dilemma for Hayen
Hayen isn't exactly eager to leave Club Brugge, where he signed an improved permanent contract in June. This contract reportedly includes a release clause. If a certain amount is agreed upon, the coach won't have to wait for his current employer's approval.

The exact amount is unknown, nor is it known whether Hayen could potentially earn more in Glasgow. The manager himself has stated that he's set his sights on delivering Club's twentieth league title before venturing out for a breath of fresh air. Although he has already won everything in Belgium. More to come

Basically * asking us to contact his agent.

I suppose weve got a preferred candidate in mind though...

The only better candidate than Hayen for me is Knutsen.

I think Bellamy is destined to manage us at some stage and I'd welcome it tbh. Timing doesn't seem right for him or us though right now.

Knutsen is who I wanted last time and this time but if hayen is a possibility then I think it’s one we must seriously consider

Why would Hayden want to move from Club Brugge to Celtic?

Seems at best a sidewards step and if we're being honest, given where Brugge are right now, a downwards one.

Only reason(s) could be a bigger wage with us or sees the potential jobs after doing a job with us as more lucrative than what he might get while at Brugge maybe.

There could well be a few reasons

Maybe sees it as a step to the premier league , Rodger’s , gerrard , oneill , ange have all went good clubs from Celtic and rangers after performing well , he had a spell in wales where he might have enjoyed the lifestyle and all the scenery which Scotland can offer , the chance of probably doubling or trebling his wage and there’s a few more teams in Belgium pushing for titles than just what you have in Scotland so might see it as a chance to build his reputation more

I think if it’s knutsen or hayen they need to trust there signings and philosophy , I do think they come in and they will get results but it needs to be longer term vision.

Yeah maybe but would the career trajectory really be that different in say 2 moves' time?

Say he comes here and is a success, where is he likely to go next? I think Ange's time at Spurs will have tainted big EPL clubs going for successful Celtic managers. So you're maybe looking at going to a mid-table club? Big European clubs don't exactly seek out those that do well with us either so can't see what would make the move so attractive for him outside of his wage.

It could be as simple as he sees it as his potential route to English football.

Yeah I'm with you tbh I don't see the logic in it from his point of view either, just speculating why it might be attractive for him.

Maybe it is a natural step for him. Success in Belgium would likely land him a decent club at somewhere like the Netherlands I would imagine. Just speculating obviously.

But again, after thinking on it I think he would likely see it as a chance to get into the EPL. Those clubs ain't exactly looking at the likes of Brugge for their next manager

This debate of why would Haynes or Knutsen come here is again, indicative of how we are ran as a club.

We aren't ambitious enough that realistically, not many managers, or players, would see brugge and Bodø to Celtic as a step up any more.

Haynes comes here and we continue as we always do, he's got 2-3 years.
2 years and he could leave on a high, but chances are he's getting an Everton job, or worse. He's then a year or two there and of he hits the ground running, he may get the United job. That's 3-5 years.

When really, he probably could go straight to an Everton job now, spend two years there then get the Chelsea job if he wanted it.

Same goes for McKenna. Chelsea was interested last time for him, see if he gets Ipswich promoted again, keeps them up next season, then 18 months from now he's the Chelsea manager if he wanted it.
But he would have to come to Celtic now and spend the next 2.5 years managing us, to then get an Ipswich level job for two years then maybe the Chelsea job after 4-5 seasons.

We aren't an attractive prospect to these guys if we operate as we do.

I really hope the club are about to change things, they haven't yet.
Because we need to make inroads in Europe, we need to be selling players on who instantly go up a level. We need to better our name and brand, so that managers and players see us as a stepping stone again.

My worry with both Hayen and Knutsen would be that they are at extremely well run clubs and what we aspire to be but clearly aren't. It's also hard not to draw comparisons with Clement

Is Knutsen not similar style to Rodgers too tho?

Has 1 system and plays it every game. The same system Rodgers played that doesn't suit out current squad.
Looking at the stats from last night, the had 64% possession and created 2 chances.

I don't know a lot about him but what I have read gives me a few worries that he's similar to Rodgers although I was very impressed with Bodo when we played them but I suppose with Ange's suicide tactics it's maybe a bit scewed.
