Now there’s a sensible suggestion. We won’t do that, obviously.

Harsh to call him failed. Pep would fail at Hibs

    Both have different attributes..

But, I'm unsure if he knows enough about the modern game and players or has the energy for it.. he does know how to run a football club though, especially Celtic.

Maloney, is intelligent and forward thinking with good elite experience as a coach. He could also bring continuity between managers.

I would actually take either, as its recognition that, that's the modern structure needed.

In reality neither have any experience in that role.

Sacked at Hibs, sacked at Wigan.

David Gray currently doing a far superior job as we speak at Easter Rd.

For me, a DOF should be a figurehead of stature who is a person that can be leaned on by the head coach but also provides the continuity when people move on.

MON seems to me to be absolutely perfect for the role. A PR dream, a club legend, brimming with aura and for a 73 year old he is as fit and as sharp as he ever was.

To be fair, Maloney was given 4 months at Hibs after they'd sold their top scorer without replacing him. Not exactly sure what Hibs were expecting.

As simple a statement as you could possibly produce. Context is key...

He would be a realistic fit for the Current Board and has plenty in the bank with the support..

But for me he would be the wrong man to modernise the club and structure, but any small steps would be welcome. New structure with someone who knows how to win in Scotland, could work.

We were discussing it in the joint thread earlier, for me, like everyone it's great to see MON back and the dynamic between him and Maloney looks to be very good. And its bought us time to ensure a new manager is the right man. And that's as far as it goes for me, end of the season max..

Ideally a new DoF, has experience of working with an innovative modern thinking club. Can operate on a £50–70m squad value, has proven ability to recruit undervalued talent.
Understands data-led scouting and potential new manager fit. As well as work with the constraints and almost unique make up of our board..

For me the last part is the part MON would excel at, the rest he would need a lot of help with.

MON would be totally unsuited to a DoF role I think. Hes a motivator and a man manager. A good guy to have in the dressing room. But directing football operations in the modern game - I dont see it at all.

I thinks hes come in with Maloney and given a dressing room low on morale a lift. Id be cautious as to how much mileage that gets though in the medium to longer turn and whether the bounce wears off.

I do hope he's involved in some capacity with the new set up.

Might not make a great manager but hes clearly excellent as a coach.

I would take maloney over some someone like Wilfred Nancy any day .

Maloney knows celtic inside out and will being doing the day to day coaching and all the background work right now as it it.

If celtic go on a run of games and put in decent performances in europe then he deserves a shot.

Was there for all to see on Sunday how much involvement Maloney has in team tactics. He was continually giving instructions in no uncertain terms to the players, it’s a side of him we never see when he’s in front of the cameras. I like Maloney a lot, he’s intelligent but worried he was a bit too reserved for management. I was very happy to see that isn’t the case on Sunday. I’m not sure if he would make a great Celtic manager but as head of coaching or No.2 he would be a good choice. At the moment he’s the ideal right hand man for O’Neill.
