This week has certainly been encouraging. But time will tell if its just a bounce or not tuat all sides get.

If we continue to see this throughout November then I think it needs to be seriously considered. Appointing them both.

Even until the end of the season. I just feel like we have quite a tough run to get through from now till new year and given we are chasing down hearts I genuinely wonder whether bringing in someone completely alien to Scotland would be wise.

I think if you asked McInnes he'd probably rather MON left and Knutsen came in.

Admittedly it could be a now or never scenario for the latter. It could be a very difficult decision if this continues.

I also think Martin is undoubtedly wanting the job. Not buying anything he's saying.

  2. he looks 63 and jumps around like hes 23 hahahahaha

  3. Mental what a week can do in football. If you told me a few weeks ago MON and Maloney were going to take over, on top of the state we were in I’d have considered jacking it in tbh.

If we were to get a result on Thursday then follow it up with a big win against Killie then it will be very difficult to look elsewhere if they want to continue.

They’ve steadied the ship and quite obviously improved us. But it needs to be a short term deal - as MON is suggesting.

If they can get us to the break with a point in Denmark and a win against Killie then we couldn’t ask for anything more, really.

After that, we need to be appointing someone else permanently.

  5. This current set up should only be a temporary solution. Ideally sorted by end of the international break. January at the latest.

O'Neill clearly has reservations about this long term and rightly so. We need someone to come in and stamp their authority on the team and hit the summer window running.

We shouldn't be looking at getting a permanent manager in the summer. Kinda like were demoting Europe already if that's the thinking.

  6. I don't know. Am starting to seriously consider Maloney as a contender. He seems to have a good presence, is a very good coach by all accounts, tactically astute and a confident guy. Some may look at his previous manager jobs as proof he's not good enough, but he'll have better resources here and better players.

Think it's worth not ruling him out at least.

  7. I think, if we had the correct footballing structure behind us, then appointing someone like Maloney/Kennedy would have been a fine appointment, given they're only a small part of the overall footballing department. A lot of Belgian/German/Scandinavian clubs promote their management team from within.

Unfortunately, because we work in a very different way, you're asking someone like Maloney to be the figurehead of the whole footballing department and I don't think that would be a wise move, at this moment in time. For him or for us. He's definitely got credentials to be a very good coach and I don't think anyone in here would deny that but the club needs to restructure the footballing department before we begin to think of coaches becoming managers.

Ideally we want the new manager in with a few easier games. But looking at fixtures, there's not really an easy run of games.

Maloney could be massive for anyone coming in. Hopefully they want to keep him on so he can help them transition to whatever style they want to play, if they want to change it. Being part of the Belgium setup with Roberto Martinez at least earns him some clout with a new manager you would think.

  9. No.

We’re a mess at board level. If MON is happy to stay he and Maloney should continue. What we need to do is modernise the club, changes in personnel and structure at board level must happen. Let MON and Maloney keep the team ticking over while that’s happening.

The hun media are terrified that we will keep MON on for a while. He's like one of those loose variables that no one saw coming into the mix and no one is sure how to control it. He's so off the wall and doesn't give a hoot who he offends. A man who's walked the walk and talked the talk with an aura that demands respect. Even if in the short term we should let him continue for now. MON himself will walk away without hesitation if he sees it's not going to work.

  11. I get your argument and do agree overall, a DoF coming in would be ideal in that sense. For what it's worth i have a feeling that might be the way we're going, but obviously that remains to be seen.

But, I don't think Maloney should be dismissed out of hand even if the current structure remains. He would be the figurehead yes, but that doesn't mean he's doing everything by himself. There's Tisdale for starters, who's title is Head of Football Operations. There's a lot of questions around him of course but he is in-post and would take a lot of burden off Maloney.

Any manager that plays BR style tippy tappy * needs removed from any shortlist straight away. Direct football is the way to go now, with pace and power, which us ironic considering that's all he would * harp on about.

  13. Id give Martin the cup final and then thats it, Idblove Knutsen and if his season finishes in coming months then make do till then.

  14. If MON and Maloney get two positive results this week I am with you.

That is a hard run of fixtures post international break. St Mirren (A), Feyenoord (A), Hibs (A), Dundee (H), Hearts (H), Roma (H), St Mirren (cup final), DUTD (A) and Aberdeen (H) to take us up to Christmas. So 9 games coming in a month from 22nd November to 21st of December.

Then Livi (A), Motherwell (A) and Rangers (H) over a week from 27th December to 3rd of January.

It is hard to see where you bring a new manager in beyond this international break. Say it’s Knutsen, his last game under his Bodo contract is 10th of December. Do you get him working on transfers and then taking the team after the Aberdeen game on 21st of December? His contract officially expires at the end of December.

It is not easy, hopefully we have that problem though as it means we continue to see an upturn in form.

  15. When Rodgers had his Celtic team firing there was excellent attacking slick football as well. There was front foot football against quality sides in the CL. Seems like the malaise that set in in recent months has led to amnesia with some. Rodgers system was about control at the back but power and pace and quick passing when attacking. Needed better quality players to make it work at its best. The cheapskate bungalow bill board didn’t want to spend the money required and instead hoarded around 80 million and left it sitting in the bank accumulating taxes.

Rodgers is gone. Lawwell got his way but Celtic can’t carry on with the old firm Honda civic mentality. * that and * Lawwell and his pals. Celtic must modernise at administrative level before deciding on who the next manager is.

  16. People forget the football in his 2nd season was awful too. (17/18)

I seen a stat we scored less goals that season than the covid year. Bear in mind we had Griffiths, Roberts. Sinclair,Dembele, Eddie, Armstrong, Rogic. We also had the lowest points total for a championship side. That tells you his tactics are a problem

I posted this on the BR thread. Look at the players we had at his disposal that season and we scored less goals than the covid season. Thats mental

  17. I think Maloney's been hard done by in terms of looking at his previous managerial career. Yes, there's nothing to suggest he's high level, but people acting like he's been * are being harsh. Sacked too quickly at Hibs after a poor run of form (at a time when they were sacking managers like it was going out of fashion- look how they've benefitted from actually sticking with one), and a decent enough job at Wigan who are an absolute basket case of a club. Not advocating for him to get the job here permanently just now but he's clearly highly regarded and pretty astute, doing himself no harm just now.

That excuses him shafting the fans, leaving us trailing Hearts in the league then ...

  19. His tactics worked perfectly well at times as well but there’s peaks and troughs in any manager’s tenure. Important that people don’t fall for an agenda driven by Lawwell and his cronies. Rodgers was delivering trophies domestically and improved performance and results at CL level, he was far from perfect but he was doing his job most of the time. Lawwell and co. weren’t and aren’t, they’re still there.

Knutsen is the flavour of the month at the minute. I think he could be a good appointment but again I think we’re going nowhere in terms of real progress until the board of management is modernised with new people and new ideas.

Ironic that Knutsen and Bodo are currently in danger of not achieving their domestic 3 in a row titles in Norway. They lost to Valarenga with Knutsen citing his players looking tired. Sound familiar? Viking have the title in their hands to win it with 3 games left. If Bodo fall flat and lose the title is Knutsen losing his grip as a manager etc.?

Managers come and managers go and they have a shelf life and usually have 2 or 3 years where they get the best out of players and then either they move or the players move and new ones come in. It might have been time for Brendan Rodgers to move at the end of last season in hindsight but that’s because there was * all efforts made to move out players who wanted to go or should have gone and then get quality in.

The biggest problem at Celtic is Lawwell and his influence on the board. He’s stopping the club from reaching anywhere near its full potential.

  20. Well he’s gone.

    The board are still there and yeah there’s no shadow of doubt about it;
    Board = Bad.

Sack the board, get Lawwell and co. out.
