Much more like his old self.

First half was outstanding. Second went quiet for a bit but came up clutch.

    Credit where it’s due.

Superb. Not just the goal but getting stuck in.

I actually thought to myself during the game he has a decent record of goals at Hampden. What a strike.

Brilliant today. It shows the difference with a manager who knows his strengths.

He had the bite to him today. Putting himself about, doing the dirty work. Great to see.

I've criticised him massively. But by christ was he a captain today.

Post match quote from MON about the captain

You've witnessed some inspirational captains in your time, can you sum up the contribution of Callum McGregor today?

He's just a great player. I've been saying this here for a couple of days, and obviously his performance, when I had the team on Wednesday evening.

I've watched Celtic intermittently over the years, and you think, yeah, he's a really good player. It's only when you get down and you're actually in the job itself, you realise how really good he is.

He's a good captain as well too, you know. Vociferous in the dressing room, which is great. But he can play, can really play. I thought he was brilliant and my expectation of him is so high.

He’s been much better since Engels came back in the team and better still when Engels is next to him helping him.

He was really good although I will say he dropped back into recent form at one point which let them back into the game, but today was overall a throwback to the player we all know.

He needs unleashed. At CM further up the field he'd score barrel loads. This double pivot kind of works, though. Still, I expect a CDM signing if MON sticks around.

He’s just so much happier when he’s allowed freedom, not only that he now has support, players close to him, allowed to use his own judgment in where to play passes rather than drilled in passages of playing.

He has always worked very hard and gave his all but him in particular the two games under MON, I think you can see a guy who was very young at the club in his formative years, think he would have been 12 or so when Martin left us, and what he was for us was a giant, he’s playing for a childhood idol and making sure to do him proud. The desire in him has always been insane, the drive to win but it’s went into overdrive. Not just that goal as the obvious example, on Wednesday he won a slide tackle 3 up against Falkirk at home and celebrated it like *. Rarely seen him break composure like that. This means a lot to him.
