Credit where it’s due, he looked a far better player with our play being quicker and more direct.

Johnny Kenny, who scored a double, has played himself into contention for a starting role against Rangers in Sunday’s Premier Sports Cup semi-final although Daizen Maeda also made his return from a hamstring injury. He replaced Kenny after 65 minutes.

On Kenny, O’Neill said: “He did really fine. He’s learning the game and took his goals like a proper striker and did really well. The physios said Maeda would get 35 minutes or so. How they calculate that, I don’t know. The things I have to learn!”

Wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t kick snow off a rope again for a few games, but he did do well and should’ve had another goal or two. He’ll take confidence from that and hopefully will keep learning and improving. Fair play.

His movement off the ball is class, proper striker. Always making the run off the last man looking for through balls but suppose you have play that way to get the most out of him rather than going down the wings all the time. Hopefully we will do just that now

Played well and suits the direct through balls that were getting fed. Hopefully add some value to him and sell in January.

Would be amazed if he doesn’t start Sunday. Can’t be dropping a striker after scoring a brace.

Nice to have Maeda as an option off the bench if it isn’t working though.

I want him to start Sunday regardless of my reservations against him. Scoring a brace should be rewarded

Tbh I’d usually always say ye couldn’t drop a striker after scoring a couple goals but I think I’d drop him for maeda…. I can picture Kenny fluffing a couple of good chances then they going and scoring one of their chances. Whereas I think maeda would be more clinical. He loves them games too…. I’d be happy still if Kenny was to start don’t get me wrong but think I’d favour daizen start

Maeda has butchered loads of huge chances in recent times, Ibrox last season, cup final v Aberdeen and Kairat for example.

I'd keep him off the bench and he's a great option to spring off it in the closing stages.

Been torn on whether I want Johnny starting the morra or Daizen. I think with Nygren getting high up in support will get results either way, but am leaning towards starting Kenny. Having Daizen off the bench could be worth keeping up our sleeve.

I’d start Kenny tbh. He’s a pest to play against and tires out defenders. Having Maeda to come on for the last 30 (plus potentially extra time) against tired legs and on a huge pitch would be a great trump card.
