I think he knows that as well, he quickly said no to any possibility of him being manager. He could definitely be a brilliant assistant for whoever comes in or go back to his other position.

Hugely impressed with him so far, it's looking like him partnering up with St Martin is a bit of a masterstroke.

He’s far more vocal on the sidelines than I thought he’d have been. It’s vital we keep him around under the next manager I think.

Martin O'Neill and Shaun Maloney. The Larsson and Sutton of management teams.

I have to echo what others have already said, I’m surprised at just how vocal he was getting at points throughout the match; he was even getting into a bit with the fourth official towards the end :giggle1:

He’s always apparently been quite highly regarded as a coach, he’s just never been able to make it work as a manager. Maybe, for us, his talents are best utilised in a more behind the scenes/technical role, and possibly even in one greater than he currently holds, but I do wonder if keeping him more directly involved with the first team might be something to consider. I’m hesitant to go back down the road of us foisting an entire back room staff on a new manager, but after today’s display I could see him making for a decent assistant.

Deserves a lot of credit. MON has obviously taken a lot of the spotlight and scrutiny away from the players but ultimately Shaun was already in the building and for me he's made the quite glaringly obvious changes to the team and setup that we were crying out for under Rodgers.

Playing a no. 10 and dropping Hatate, going more direct and bringing someone like Osmand in - I'm sure Martin has leaned on him a lot for his knowledge of the squad.

He's clearly got a bit about him.

I felt like him and Martin would work well together under the circumstances as I can imagine Maloney compensating for a lot of the things Martin lacks in terms of coaching and modern tactics/methods - and then throw in Martin’s knowledge, along with his general aura, and it’s no surprise we’ve seen a total transformation in the hunger of this team in the space of a week.

I would be genuinely curious to see how they would fare if they remained in their roles until the end of the season. Not sure it’ll happen, but they’ve certainly given DD something to think about.

The majority of the way we are playing will be down to Maloney. MON a great figure head. But the tactics and team selection will be all Maloney. Listening to O’Neil in interviews you can tell he doesn’t really know much about the current Celtic team. Fair play to Maloney he’s a clued up coach and will have seen plenty of Celtic over the years.

Thought this idea was unlikely at best but sounds like there's something in it. Would be very interested to see it happen.

Aye think I agree tbh, his coaching ability and presence is too important to lose at the minute. Maybe down the line it's something to look at.

DOF should be someone like O’Neill, not a failed young manager.
