    Probably Ange for me.

Im not convinced he wouldnt come back given where his career is right now.

I think he would give the club a much needed lift and would be someone the players and support could quickly get behind. He obviously knows the league and has a track record of taking the club over from the position of a mess and turning it around quickly.

So he ticks a lot of the boxes for me and the fact hes readily available is a bonus too.

The problem with Ange and his speed of play and constant movement is the fact we have a team who can't pass a ball to each other while moving slowly or static. How could they pass a ball to each other at speed.

Let's be honeat, it would be Ange.

The board could sell it as the second coming and buy themselves a little leeway with certain fans who still idolise him. It's a no from me.

Knutsen would be the absolute clear winner for me. He's turned down many big approaches and he has a phenomenal contract situation at Bodo where he get a slice of all the profit when it comes to transfers. So, he's incredibly unlikely but his style of football, the way he has built that club. Just the absolute dream pick, to be honest.

Marco Rose would definitely be an interesting pick. Has experience of managing some big clubs and always seemed to do well initially. Then, kinda faded, a bit like Brendan as time goes on. I remember being ridiculously impressed by his Salzburg team. Their pressing was some of the best I've seen at Celtic Park.

I know he was linked with them and he's affiliated with them but I would also take Muscat. Wanted him when we were looking to replace Ange.

Big picture, it really doesn't matter.

The same issues are gonna crop up.

We hire Kennedy/Maloney levels and they either flop instantly or pull off a Lennon first stint bounce. But within three years we would be in the same position we always find ourselves in.

Hire a manager of the ilk of Ange or Brendan and we will back them first season, but then severely reign it all in and expect the same performances and results when their squads are running on fumes and we've sold anyone worth a few quid.

Martin O'Neil "get used to life in the slow lane" in September 2003 after PL was in position that same month.
Wgs - got backed with guys like Boruc in his first season, then ripped apart as his tenure moved forward, most if us by season 3 knew the writing was on the wall. His fourth season we were heading for a disaster, til (and I hate to say it) the passing of Tommy seemed to galvanise the squad and we kicked on. But he should have been sacked before.
Mowbray - aye a failed effort.
Lennon - left citing glass ceilings and taking the club as far as he could under the setup.
Deila - cheap option that was originally meant to be an assistant, hamstrung by being forced Kennedy on to him, something Keane didn't want was an assistant assigned to him. That was our first major indication of jobs for the bhoys and something really not right (signs before, but that should have been the first major one we all took note of).
Two seasons with deila but he was being backed less and less as the higher ups took advantage of no rangers.
Rodgers, backed his first season, come season three we all know about the McGinn saga.
Lennon, welcome back, whole appointment was poor, COVID season and all that. By that point we knew the squad was on fumes and those not sold already were desperate to leave.
Ange comes in, first season backed very well, to the point we signed players before the window even opened. Guess who wasn't in a position of power in the club.
Second season nears an end and he has his meeting with PL and MN and from that point he starts to want out - no doubt the plans laid out by these two did not sit well with Ange and his idea of progressing the club.
Welcome back rodgers, sold a lie about recruitment having changed. First season signed a bunch of club signings we all said "must be from the Ange times, he will get his players later" he never really did. Kasper and even ihanaecho was panic "oh * Rodgers we have * this, mind calling a pal" and low and behold season three, here we are again.

Every manager this millennium (other than mowbray who didn't last) has been * over by the board.

So, long winded, but it really doesn't matter who we hire next. We may get the bounce and see us dominate domestically, but within three seasons it will be ripped apart and we will be back here again.

I'll be raging if it's a maloney, Kennedy, brown type. But end of the day, they'll be * over as much as Rodgers, Ange or even a Knutsen or Rose that we all would love to see.

The worry is, these higher named managers will all be figuring out the situation. The clubs * over and * off enough other managers and clubs, that we are the talk of the town of being hard to work with and for.

@Peej I agree with what you say, but tbf the spending under MON wasn't sustainable.. we had to reign it in.. as history showed us with the Hun.

He managed it before with a good few of these players still at the club.

Kyogo is probably the big miss from Anges initial team.

My main fear with Ange coming back is that now hes had a taste on the quality available in the prem that he might not have the same motivation to work with the quality here.

When he first joined this was a massive opportunity for him way above anything he had experienced before. So he was probably much more tolerant of working with a board that lacked ambition and a squad of players that were mixed quality.

Coming back into that fold having worked with the money and quality in the prem league might be difficult to have the same motivation.

    Absolutely agree.
Maybe in recent years we are using that line from MON to our advantage of the narrative. But the warnings was still there of what to come.

Agree though, we couldn't keep that level of spending compared to that level of income we had back then (£30-35m revenue back in those days).
But somewhere along the end of WGS and the Mowbray time, we needed to recognise we had brought the finance in check and could level out and/or spend better.

Weirdly we now have revenue of £124m, near 4 times what we had back then, but we still spend like we do in the late 00s and early 10s. Wages the biggest issue as well which, until perhaps recent with KT, we haven't really broken a wage cap from 20 years ago.

I know you know all this as well JC, so forgive me for just using the time to rant a bit more.
Podcasts not going on these days so I need somewhere to rant :56:

It has to be Ange if he hasn't got a job by then. If not Ange then undertake a thorough process and identify the best candidate. Yeah how likely is that?

Don't think Ang would come back he knows how this board works and how much of a * show it is with them and we will end up with someone who's been out of work for more than a year or we end up with someone like Robinson of st.mirren .

Adi Hutter too. Always liked how his teams played - experience winning leagues and managing in Europe. He'd be my pick.

I dont think Rodgers will be sacked per se.

Although I can see a scenario unfolding where its suits the fans, the board and Rodgers himself to leave under a kind of mutual agreement.

Im not sure he has the stomach to scrap for a whole season like this especially as Ive no doubt he feels hes been undermined totally. If we go out to rangers in the cup and fall further behind Hearts the pressure will get to him I think and him and the board will come to an agreement to leave.
