He’s not getting a free pass, him being surrounded by pish has dragged him down to be just as bad. That defence without CCV would be far * worse and you know it.

It's nothing to do with that. He is accountable to his own form and he's been worse than his CB partner this season. That's on him and nobody else.

CCV has always been a fan favourite and can do no wrong in many people's eyes. He's been way off it for a long time though and was never really a standout in Europe for me. Had loads of iffy moments and performances that were often overlooked.

He was however solid against the dross and shone in the big domestic games we had. He's barely put a foot wrong against the huns for example.

Saying that he literally scored an own goal and lost his man at the corner for the other goal yesterday but Scales is the one taking the flak (and before anyone starts, Scales was * too).

His main passing attribute is to scales about 90% of the time. Even when someone is available in front. Probably doesnt help its mcgreggor pointing he doesnt want it

Fully agree with that, for me its the injuries with him. He's had a few surgeries in the past couple of years, he's a big guy and a big frame and for that reason I don't see him having the type of longevity other centre backs will have. That's taken its toll and his levels have dropped. The signs were there last season, he had an ok season but he had plenty of iffy games too.

I like him and he's been an invalauble player over the last few years but he's in decline and people are kidding themselves if they can't see it. He is not that far above Scales in all honesty, CCV is better in one v ones and better positionally, Scales is better in the air and I think he's now the more mobile of the two, both struggle on the ball, CCV plays it safer while Scales generally tends to be the one who tries to step up and make things happen to not a great deal of success.

CCV is vastly overrated by our fans and Scales is underrated, that's why you see the Scales thread being bumped up when we have a bad result, it's premeditated.

If CCV was as good as some fans would have had you believe he would not be here. EPL clubs have had plenty of chances to take a nibble, none have. He can't get his place in the USA side, he was on loan at 6 different Championship clubs before he joined us - all of those clubs could have afforded to sign him if they wanted - none of them did.

Both Scales and CCV were rubbish yesterday but I think we should be a lot more worried about CCV's level of form right now than Scales as his form has clearly regressed and he's been making much more mistakes than Scales this season.

Not denying that CCV had a relatively poor game yesterday (which I almost never think); but I honestly find it amazing just how differently we see this player.

FWIW, I agree with you that Scales is underrated.

As I said I like CCV but there's no doubt he is overrated by us. We did the same with Kyogo, we blamed the national team manager for not selecting him. He's flopped at Rennes and Birmingham since.

Look at him recently. The misaktes in the Kairat game, the two EL games, 3 OGs in the past 12 months, the winner for Rangers at Celtic Park. His levels have dropped big time in the past 18 months. That doesn't mean he's useless or need jettisoned - we have much bigger problems than our centre halves right now but I do think a spell on the sideline for him might be the right thing now. When a players level drops, having them on the bench for a number of games might be the rocket they need.

I think Rodgers has been guilty of allowing the standards drop this season, some people are guaranteed of their places regardless of how they play - Schmeichel, AJ, CCV, Scales, Tierney, McGregor, Nygren, Hatate, Tounketi, Kelechi, Maeda - that's our team if everyone is fit and a lot of those are out of form. I could maybe see Scales or Tounekti getting dropped if their form doesn't pick up from yesterday but I think Rodgers is starting the rest regardless of where their performance levels are at.
