I don't see any reason why any Celtic fan would want to support them.

The history of Irish football is very important, just cause you weren't born when it started doesn't make it a "moot point".... If we spoke purely about Irish politics we'd likely agree on most things, but you're wrong about the football. Both teams rep 2 different territories, they are what they are, just cause a player from NI chooses to play for ROI doesn't automatically change the number of counties it reps. It's the same if a fan from NI chooses to support ROI, both the players and fans that do choose ROI are merely executing their right to do so, it doesn't change what it reps just cause of where they're from. Players from England, Scotland and Wales have played for ROI, does it rep those 3 countries too cause those players are from them? By your logic it does.... This is what I meant the other day when I said some ROI fans
make up rules as they go!

Oh ffs, man! You asked a question with your original post and you’ve been given a clear answer. If you don’t like that answer, then, that’s your prerogative.

Also, you’ve absolutely drowned this debate in semantics and goalpost-moving. The fact that anyone from the 32 counties can play for Ireland doesn’t change the fact that there’s two associations on the island, due to the partition, but it doesn’t mean that the Irish team don’t represent players and fans from the 32 counties because, clearly, it does. I won’t even get into your frankly idiotic comments on players from the Irish diaspora because I don’t feel that they merit a decent reply tbh.

If you want to cheer on the pub team after all of that, then, off you go.

Utter, utter nonsense. Ireland represents 32 counties in terms of A, who can declare for them; and B, where the fans come from. NI represents mostly people who consider themselves ‘British’ and who live in the occupied 6 counties. End of.

When have I used semantics and moved goalposts exactly? If you mean by using the TRUE definition of something then yes I've done that, but that's not semantics I just base my opinions on FACT, for example, the FAI team's LITTERLY called the REPUBLIC OF IRELAND! The same name as the country itself (the country that's made up of 26 counties), the same name that's the result of the partition of the island of Ireland, and both represent 26 of 32 counties, it's a FACT, you can't rewrite history! And people that come from any of those 32 counties can choose to play for either team because of the political unrest, players wanna go where they feel comfortable, which is totally understandable, but it doesn't change the FACT that both countries and teams represent separate territories from each other, it's as simple as that!

Well I have said several times they should change the anthem, the flag and get a defined nationality, it's not the actual team's fault they don't

One more thing @BhoyFitz, if the ROI team DOES represent all 32 counties like you say, seeing as fans/players from down south can choose to support/play for NI in the same way as fans/players up north can with the ROI, surely that makes NI a 32 county team as well right?
