I honestly can’t wait until we move on from him.

Utterly fed up seeing him start every single match.

Our defenders do pass us 10 yards. The problem is that is the role McGregor is in the team to play, he is there to take the ball off the defenders and launch our attacks that is our role. We play the same as most possession based sides do - 4-3-3 with a deep lying defender who takes the ball from the defenders. The issue is our deep lying playmaker doesn't want the ball and when he does get the ball he doesn't want to take responsibility on it. He doesn't take the ball on the half turn, majority of the time when Scales or CCV pass to him he passes the ball straight back to CCV or Scales or Schmeichel - why isn't he showing character, taking that ball on the half turn or dropping deep and playing a forward pass or carrying the ball out? That's the issue. He is shirking responsibility, he is asking Scales and CCV to make the 10/20/30 yard passes which they are not very good at. Shoudn't McGregor be doing that?

If your right then why isn't Rodgers dropping him ? If it's because he is captain then you'd expect the manager to strip him of his captaincy ? then drop him if his game doesn't improve

Maybe the manager is happy with his performances ?

Said in another thread but he's starting to remind me of Brown during the covid season.

He's lost a lot of pace and slows things down, the huns have targeted him for nearly a year now in regards to this.

It doesn't help that our other midfielders are slow as well, a real lack of pace and physicality in there currently.

Looks done in, hopefully the international break can be a reset for him and the team and we can come back stronger. Still has something to offer, not done yet for me

There's a lot of guys you could ask the same question of now.

    Tierney
    CCV
    Maeda
    Schmeichel

    If he was a horse
    Iv said the same.

Similarly to Brown he started getting exposed in Europe 1st before he then began to struggle domestically too.

McGregor has been shown sign of decline at higher level for a while now, he's probably one more season away from Browns COVID season level.

I'm not the biggest fan of Callum & always thought he should be pushed forward with a DM brought in. His best time at us was under Rodgers on first time around, this was playing further forward. I've been saying for years to get a DM in & push him forward, people who loved him had even saying this. TBH that time has passed, what midfielder have you ever seen being push forward in their older years when they don't have the legs. Any midfielder i've seen that loose their legs have been pushed back to DM not pushed forward.

I will admit Callum has been the best DM we have had around but what do you expect when people like Kouassi, Soro, Kwon & Iwata were brough in (cheap options)

He should have been managed better in the good times. That aside, to drop him now would look like panic stations stuff and would be the wrong move. If we can ride out this tough period we are going through until January then we should be looking to do some major surgery on the midfield. Contrary to the wide held view though, I do think Callum has a good couple of years ahead of him but not as the sole holding midfielder & that's not a new thing. I don't think it's ever been his role. He's a better player than most of the midfielders around him and I'd like to see him freed up a bit more to get forward. I think that's always been his best position.

Rodgers will never drop him. He's essentially his coach out on the pitch dictating the way we play, constantly telling other players where to pass the ball to.
These guys are professional football players are they not capable of seeing 5 yard passes themselves without him constantly pointing to where it's to go?
Maybe someone should tell him the opposition are behind him and can see him pointing and it's just telegraphing where the next pass is going.

    * infuriating

Played out of position for 5 years both as a #6 and as a captain due to our laziness as a club.
He's not a natural in either role but did an admirable job despite that. We now feel we can't change it.
He also became undroppable due to laziness and lack of imagination by the manager.
Led to him playing far too many games, more than anyone in world football.at one point.

Feel sorry the guy, he's been struggling with the captain's burden and tried to carry the team for too long and now it's really telling.
But instead of carrying the team, sadly he is now a burden.

The worrying thing is he's still the most mobile midfielder we have.

Clearly thing behind the scenes have got to him and the squad.

When can you remember a captain come out and make comments on strengthen the squad?

That’s not to say he’s not the player he once was cause I feel like you can see the decline but something is going on behind the scenes.

Just looked back to previous posts
    Nov 23
Got roasted for suggesting Cal Mac was hiding and not making himself available to start the play
It’s now nearly two years later
    What’s changed?
We are a man down in Europe with him playing the 6
I’m sorry it’s as basic as that
If nothing changes we are in for a long hard watch of a season

Mr reliables form has fallen of a cliff, what the * Is going on at the club?
For the last 6 months we have slowly gone backwards on the pitch, it is more than a * transfer window.
Feels like we ned a good clear out from top to bottom.

This is definitely true. The first time I really lost my patience with him was the game we played 2 seasons under Rodgers at Easter Road where Idah scored a last minute penalty to get us out of jail and which I think if we didn't win, we'd have lost the league that season. He went hiding that game. He didn't want the ball and completely hung his centre backs out to dry.

When you play that role you have to take responsibility. It's been a reoccuring theme since then, if we get pressed he doesn't want to know about it, he doesn't want to be the guy who makes the mistake and loses the ball in a dangerous area so he effectively says to his centre backs - figure it out yourselves lads, I'm being put under pressure here so I don't want it. That is shirking your responsibilities, it's putting yourself before the team.

Got a throw last night and he was free to receive the ball, instead he signaled for the ball to be thrown back to the defense.
To me that summed up his and the teams attitude be safe and take your time and we,ll be ok.

He should have demanded the ball turned to the oppositions box and looked to find one of our lads with the hope it might lead to something but no he wants the ball thrown back to the defense a * joke.

100% but I'd say its more a kind of selfish attitude, he doesn't want to be the guy giving the ball away, he doesn't to be the guy making the mistakes or taking on the risk. That's why he takes the safe option, that's why he doesn't want the ball. Let Scales take the howls, let CCV take the howls.

The fact that he's the sitting midfielder means its his responsibility to take that ball and progress the play, instead he is leaving it to his centre backs who would have nowhere near his technical level to do that job for him - he has farmed the responsibility out to our centre backs who are not good enough on the ball. I feel sorry for our centre backs for what's been asked of them in possession - its way beyond what they should be expected of them.

The fact that's he captain just compounds the matter, he should be leading the team but he's shirking his own repsonsibilites and heaping pressure on his teammates.

He isn't being 'pushed forward' at this point of his career. He can't run.

He can dictate the play from deeper but he needs to grow some baws, show for the ball and play it forward. If his his manager is asking him to play passively and cowardly then he needs a new manager.

Desperately need to sort his replacement because I can't bear to watch another 3 years of him labouring around the park and playing 5 yard passes all game.
