I wonder if McCourt and Lennon would still be rooting for them these days after everything that happened, despite playing for them? The more I think about it the more trivial it seems.Just support who you want to support.

Besides anything to do with the IFA, the anthem etc., how could anyone that’s not PUL be content to mingle in the midst of people who happily chant “stick your * Palestine up your *”, whilst on an away trip? And it’s not like they don’t have form for this kind of deviancy. It’s hard to imagine that any non-Brits could just turn a blind eye to that while they all go along to cheer the same team.

The notion that an Irish fan just developed a sudden love for a team whose fan base is decidedly anti-Irish is nuts

People should stop feeding the troll

You're right about SOME NI fans being like Rangers fans, there's certainly that element obviously, but not all are, some are catholic and identify as Irish, not British, that may have been rare during the troubles but now it's far more diverse, although it still needs improvement.... How is supporting NI and ROI like supporting Celtic AND Rangers? The FAI broke away from the IFA back when the latter governed the all-Ireland team, so there's history between the 2 FAs that puts them on the same page, the same can't be said for the old firm. And besides, what about all the Celts that played for NI? No huns played for the ROI

I agree, but the fans that do that don't reflect the NI fan base as a whole, just like Celtic fans that sing "ooh ah up the RA" don't and just like Man United fans that sing about the 97 don't, most would be appalled in fact

I genuinely did just recently develop a soft spot for them, they're just as much a part of Ireland as the ROI, they're just under British rule, I wish they weren't, I wish they'd change their anthem, flag and identity to something more inclusive, or better yet merge with the ROI to make an all-Ireland team, but even if they don't, they're still Irish, no matter what!.... And I'm not a troll, it's a genuine question

Because of the extremist types that make up part (but not all) of their match going support? Because Windsor Park is situated in a unionist/loyalist stronghold? Because fans who would like to do that are worried that doing so is still considered taboo? I doubt the IFA would mind if fans did it, I also bet there are Celtic fans that attend games at Windsor Park to support NI. Maybe if fans did start doing it the floodgates would open, probably not but maybe.... What do Orange day parades have to do with the NI football team?

When I said "hopefully 1 day it'll be acceptable...." I meant hopefully 1 day there'll be an all-Ireland team where fans can wear what they wish to games without consequence. Irish catholics wearing hoops and waving a tri-colour would no doubt be abused by the bigots that go to NI games but in 2025 I bet far less NI fans would care than a few years ago, unless of course people thought they were there to provoke and cause trouble. For the record their manager Michael O'Neill is an Irish catholic, so are Conor Bradley and former Celt Conor Hazard, and NI fans love them! I bet there are others too, it's just not public knowledge.... What would happen if a Celtic fan wore a NI shirt to Celtic Park and sat amongst home fans and cheered for Celtic?

And it's only a minority of rangers fans...and some of their fans are catholic and even muslim...and their board are trying to make them less bigoted etc.

Maybe open a thread..is it okay to support them in Europe? Is it okay to want them stronger so we have a more competitive "old firm" ?

Is it okay to go to an orange parade because I like picnics?
